Abstract: An apparatus (10) for advancing a record medium (32) in a printer. The apparatus includes a rotatable member (12) connected to the platen (18) of the printer for rotation therewith, and also having teeth (44) on the periphery thereof and a driving surface (45) thereon. The apparatus (10) also includes a rotatable driving unit (14) having at least one driving member or camming lug (74, 76) thereon to engage the teeth (44) and thereby incrementally rotate the rotatable member (12) as the driving unit (14) is rotated. The apparatus further includes a coupling means (16, 94) moveable between first and second positions whereby the coupling means (16) is operatively disconnected from the driving unit (14) and the rotatable member (12) when the coupling means (16) is in the first position, and whereby the coupling means (16) when in the second position is effective to disconnect the camming lug (74, 76) from the teeth (44) and to also operatively connect the driving unit (14) with the driving surface (45) to continuously rotate the rotatable member (12) as the driving unit (14) is rotated.

Abstract: Procede et appareil de selection d'un element parmi une pluralite d'elements (20), tels que des chargeurs de donnees. L'appareil (10, 136) comprend une entree (66, 140) dans un organe stationnaire (18, 138) et des moyens de transport pour deplacer (22, 142) les elements dans une premiere et une seconde directions par rapport a l'entree, les moyens de transport comprenant un rotor (28) et une chaine (144, 146). Une porte de deviation (77, 214) est utilisee pour permettre a un element de passer au-dela de l'entree lorsque les moyens de transport se deplacent dans la premiere direction, et pour devier un element dans l'entree lorsque les moyens de transport se deplacent dans une seconde direction par rapport a l'entree. Une detection de position (72, 218) est utilisee pour determiner quel element parmi la pluralite d'elements (20) est situe dans une position predeterminee par rapport a l'entree. Lorsque le procede et l'appareil sont utilises dans un systeme de traitement de donnees, un element selectionne (20) est amene en engagement cooperant avec un dispositif de lecture/ecriture (78) situe dans la zone d'entree.
