Abstract: An image sensing system (10) utilizes a random access memory (14) to provide image sensing and apply random access memory capabilities -- data storage, refresh, nondestructive readout, etc. -- to binary data representing the two-dimensional image. The random access memory (14) can be used to effect a digital representation of the image or to provide electronic data, e.g., to a video display (36) or for optical character recognition.
