    Abstract: A fingerprint authentication device comprises input finger characteristic judging portion 13. The input finger characteristic judging portion 13 judges whether the input data is proper or not on the basis of spatial frequency analysis of an fingerprint image represented by the input data. An observation area deciding portion decides an observation area on the fingerprint image. A frequency analyzing portion 132 transforms image of the observation area into a Fourier transformed image. The frequency analyzing portion 132 further calculates averages and dispersion of strength values corresponding to predetermined spatial frequency bands. A discriminative value calculating portion calculates discriminative values by the use of the averages and the dispersion . A deciding portion decides whether the input image is proper or not by the use of the discriminative values together with discriminative coefficient preliminary calculated.

    Abstract: A user authentication apparatus is disclosed by which, even where biometrics input data of some user such as a fingerprint are low in quality and are not suitable for verification, the security of the entire system can be augmented without giving rise to increase of the cost by introduction of significant additional hardware. When a fingerprint verifying characteristic extraction section discriminates that the quality of an image of a fingerprint is insufficient or when authentication based on an inputted fingerprint by a user verification result determination section results in failure, a request to input a fingerprint is issued from a fingerprint inputting request section to the user. When necessary fingerprint inputting is performed from a fingerprint inputting section, substitute authentication by a substitute authentication section is permitted. A result of the substitute authentication by the substitute authentication section is displayed on a service permission or rejection display section. The image inputted from a fingerprint inputting section or the fingerprint inputting section is stored into a substitute authentication means user information storage section.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a skin pattern feature extracting apparat us for skin pattern images such as fingerprints, palm prints or ridge patterns of other parts of the body. An original image is held in an image holder, and displayed on an image display to be viewed by the operator. The operator inputs the angle of rotation and ratio of compression of a focal point of the original image for observing ridges more clearly. A perspective transforming unit generates a resultant image accordi ng to a corresponding perspective transformation (i.e., affine transformations), and a perspective transformed image display displays the resultant image to the user. The operator performs manual plotting and manual tracing with reference to the resultant image.     Abstract: A method and device for fingerprint identification implementing precise identification at a high speed by using partial images of a fingerprint obtained through relative movements of a finger to a small sized sensor are provided. For reassembling a sequence of partial images inputted from a frame input section 50 into a complete image, each of the partial images is collated with a user's fingerprint image (template image) registered in a template image storage section 52 to determine a position where the partial image matches best at an optimal position calculator 55, and then combined with a partial composite image stored in a partial composite image storage section 53 at an image combining section 60. When the complete composite image is obtained after repeating the above operations, specific features are extracted from the composite image at a reference character extracting section 62, and collated with those of the template image stored in a template reference character storage section 54. Consequently, user authentication can be performed at a high speed while ensuring stability in the collating operation.
