Abstract: Un método de operación de una columna de contacto (1) que comprende las etapas de: - introducción de una alimentación (31, 32) que es líquida o por lo menos parcialmente líquida, hacia la columna de contacto mediante entradas de alimentación (11, 12) a una primera presión, y - operación de una sección de la columna de contacto a una segunda presión más baja que la primera presión, caracterizado por - permitir que la alimentación (31, 32) se vaporice, simultáneamente, parcial o totalmente, o se vaporice más, y entre en la columna de contacto desde las entradas de alimentación (11, 12) a través de un dispositivo de paso del flujo de alimentación (16) que tiene una serie de aberturas (15) en el interior de la columna, y - en el cual se mantiene la segunda presión tan baja que si se hace descender más la segunda presión, un caudal másico máximo en el interior de la columna procedente de las entradas de alimentación permanece constante y está, por lo tanto, en condición de estrangulación.

Abstract: A section of a contacting column (40), such as a vacuum distillation column, comprising a feed distribution device (44) comprising a plurality of plates with voids between them and a method of operating a contacting column using a distribution device. The feed distribution device (44) being arranged substantially in front of a feed inlet (42) and capable of diffusing and directing a feed flow from the feed inlet (42) so as to distribute the feed substantially evenly over the surface area of a separation plate in the column (40) thereby increasing the columns efficiency. The contacting column containing the feed distribution device being capable of shorter height, less costly design and lower operating cost than a contacting column without the feed distribution device.
