    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing a golf ball-like polymer microparticle having many deep depressions or hollows on the surface. SOLUTION: This method for producing polymer microparticles comprises the steps of polymerizing a monomer (B) by seed dispersing polymerization method in a medium (M) in which microparticles of a seed polymer (PA) are dispersed, in the presence of (i) the monomer (B) soluble in the medium (M) giving a polymer (PB) which is different from the polymer (PA) and has a lower or equal compatibility to the medium (M) compared to the seed polymer (PA), (ii) an organic solvent (S) which is a poor solvent or non-solvent of the seed polymer (PA) but a good solvent of the polymer (PB) and non-soluble or partially soluble in the medium (M), (iii) a polymerization initiator and (iv) a dispersing agent, separating the obtained composite polymer microparticles and treating to remove the solvent (S).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hollow polymer fine particle comprising a shell of single layer structure, having a high porosity by a short process and by a simple method. SOLUTION: A mixture of (i) a crosslinkable monomer (B) (or a mixture of the crosslinkable monomer (B) and a monofunctional monomer (B')), (ii) an initiator (C) and (iii) a slightly water-soluble solvent (D) having low solubility of a polymer obtained from the crosslinkable monomer (B) is dispersed in an aqueous solution of a dispersion stabilizer (A), and a suspension polymerization is carried out to give the hollow polymer fine particle comprising the shell of the single layer structure composed of the polymer of the crosslinkable monomer or a copolymer of the crosslinkable monomer and the monofunctional monomer.
