Abstract: An encoding method comprises resampling a plurality of sample rows of a picture into a plurality of resampled sample rows; and rearranging the resampled sample rows along a nested polygonal chain scan (or rectangular ring packing) into a rearranged sample array. The method may be used in picture encoding or decoding, the rearranged array used as a reference for intra prediction, inter prediction or inter-layer prediction. Plural sample rows of several picture regions may be resampled into plurality resampled sample rows, and rearranged into several rearranged sample arrays, which may be packed into a single frame or different frames. The nested polygonal chain scan may comprise arranging the top-most sample row or the bottommost sample row to an innermost polygonal chain in the rearranged sample array, and arranging sample row furthest away from the top-most or bottom-most sample row to an outmost polygonal chain. A decoding method comprises obtaining a rearranged sample array comprising a plurality of resampled sample rows following a nested polygonal chain scan; extracting a resampled sample row by treating a polygonal chain of the nested polygonal chain scan as a one-dimensional signal along a scan order; resampling the resampled sample row into a sample row; and arranging the sample row into a sample array.

Abstract: Indications are provided in a media presentation description (MPD) and a media segment for enabling a client to request the reception of a first set of base-layer (BL) pictures separately from a second set of BL pictures, wherein the first set lacks dependencies on the second set and the second set is not used as a reference for inter-layer prediction of the enhancement-layer pictures. Clients (e.g. DASH clients) therefore need only obtain the BL pictures of the first Thinned BL set for correct decoding of the enhancement layer, and indications to this effect may be provided. The first and second sets may respectively consist of the BL pictures of a first and second set of temporal layers, wherein the first set differs from the second. A first set of URLs may be associated with the first set of BL pictures, and information indicative of the first set of URLs may be included in the MPD, which itself may comply with MPEG-DASH. A first and second Representation may be associated with the first and second set of BL pictures. Information of a byte range covering ranges of the BL pictures may be included.

As modalidades também se referem a um método para análise, assim como equipamento técnico para implementar o método para gravação e o método para análise.

Abstract: Method, apparatus and computer program for coding a non-rectangular effective image representing a 360 degree panoramic image. A non-rectangular effective picture area representing an omnidirectional panorama picture is determined 1210 and a mapped 360-degree panorama picture covering the effective picture area is obtained 1220. A non-rectangular and at least partially block-aligned reshaped picture is obtained 1230 from the 360-degree image using a first processing 1240 comprising identifying a boundary block containing a boundary of the effective picture area and performing at least one of removing zero or more samples of the peripheral block or setting sample values of samples in the edge block and outside the effective picture area by copying sample values from an opposite-side boundary region of the effective picture area and/or moving samples from an opposite-side boundary region of the effective picture area. A second processing to the reshaped non-rectangular image is used 1250 to obtain a rectangular picture and the rectangular picture is encoded 1260 into a bitstream. Corresponding methods, apparatuses and computer programs for decoding 360 degree panoramic images are also claimed.

The processing decisions may include determining whether to store the current video frame as a reference frame or determining an encoding method for at least the current video frame. Predicted future frames may comprise plural sets of possible future frames.

Providing the patches may comprise estimating surface normals from points of a volumetric scene, and grouping together points having similar surface normals to provide a given patch. Metadata (e.g. SEI messages, manifest or descriptor of media content) indicative of the patch visibility may be transmitted to the client device.
