    Abstract: One part of a key-in-knob lock set functions in a normal manner such that when the lock set is unlocked, either the outside or inside knob can be manipulated to open the door by withdrawing the latch bolt from a normal spring latch extended position. When, instead the lock set is locked, the latch bolt is extended an exceptionally long distance into the frame to a dead bolt position. Extension and retraction of the latch bolt to and from dead bolt position is accomplished by manipulation of a main cam through the agency of a key in the outside operating member or an inside operating member.

    Abstract: A dead bolt latch for a door has a cam action for extending the bolt, the cam having the form of a pivoted arm and rotated by the tail piece of lock device. The pivot axis is near one edge of a lock case extension and engages a cam opening in an actuating slide at the opposite side of the case extension. The actuating slide is attached to a latch bolt and shifts the latch bolt between extended and retracted positions when the cam is rotated.

    Abstract: A cylinder assembly located in the chamber of a padlock has a key actuated rotating cylinder plug to which is attached a locking plate. Locking lugs at opposite ends of the locking plate engage notches in the long and short legs of a shackle to hold the shackle in locked position. Engagement of the lugs with the notches is such that when the lug engaging the short leg is clear, the lug engaging the long leg is still partly engaged. For that reason the shackle cannot be unlocked by unauthorized manipulation of a shim inserted through the clearance around the short leg of the shackle to release the locking lug from engagement with the short leg.
