Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner having a front end having a dirty air inlet, a clean air outlet, an upper end and a bottom, the hand vacuum cleaner comprises a main body comprising an upper end, a lower end, a front end, a rear end and a handle having a hand grip portion (484, FIG 78), the main body housing a suction motor and fan assembly 204, the suction motor and fan assembly having a suction motor axis of rotation 252 and a cyclone unit 184 comprising a cyclone having a cyclone axis of rotation 248, a cyclone air inlet and a cyclone air outlet and the cyclone axis 248 intersects the hand grip portion (484, FIG 78), wherein, when the hand vacuum cleaner is positioned with the bottom on a horizontal surface, the cyclone axis 248 of rotation is generally horizontal, the suction motor axis 252 of rotation is generally horizontal and vertically spaced from the cyclone axis of rotation 248 and the hand grip portion 484 extends at a forward angle (892, fig 78) to the vertical . The dirt collection chamber can be beneath the cyclone, when the main body is horizontal.

Abstract: A multimode surface cleaning apparatus comprises a surface cleaning head 104 having a dirty air inlet, an upright section 108 moveably mounted to the surface cleaning head 104, the upright section 108 moveable between a plurality of reclined floor cleaning positions, a hand vacuum cleaner 112 removably mounted to the upright section 108, the hand vacuum cleaner 112 comprising a cyclone chamber, a dirt collection region, a suction motor and a clean air outlet and an auxiliary dirt collection assembly 140 removably mounted to the upright section 108. In a first upright mode of operation, the auxiliary dirt collection assembly 140 is removed from the upright section 108 and the hand vacuum cleaner 112 is in airflow communication with the dirty air inlet and, in a second upright mode of operation, the multimode surface cleaning apparatus is operable with the auxiliary dirt collection assembly 140 mounted to the upright section 108. The upright vacuum cleaner can be a stick vacuum cleaner. A further multimode cleaning apparatus is also disclosed.
