A composition for application to the skin or scalp, said composition having fungicidal, bactericidal and deodorizing characteristics comprises in a carrier selected from the group consisting of water, a lower alkanol selected from the group consisting of ethanol and isopropanol, an aqueous solution of said lower alkanol wherein said lower alkanol is present in amounts of about 20-70 percent by weight of said solution, talc and detergent, 0.01-10 percent by weight of said composition of at least one active component having the formula
WHEREIN R3 is -(CH2)n-COR6 wherein R6 is selected from the group consisting of OH and -O-R''6 wherein R''6 is alkyl having 1-4 carbon atoms, and n is 1-10 inclusive.

Hair setting lotions, hair dye compositions and hair lacquers containing the diazamerocyanines, preferably in alcoholic solutions, are also disclosed. Novel diazamerocyanines and salts thereof useful for dyeing keratinous fibers, particularly human hair, are disclosed. Illustrative is 3-methyl 2,3-dihydro 2:4''-azino benzothiazole 3''amino 6''-methyl 1''-oxo 1'', 4''-dihydro benzene having the formula:

The invention relates to a dye composition for keratin fibers, in particular for human keratin fibers such as the hair, comprising at least one cationic direct dye of given formula and at least glycerol and/or one specific polyol and/or polyol ether. The invention also relates to the dyeing processes and devices using this composition.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition exhibiting a good resistance to various attacking factors to which a hair may be subjected, and treating a coloring having less selectivity by containing a specific cationic direct dye stuff and a specific polyol, etc., in a medium suitable for the dyeing. SOLUTION: This dyeing composition for a keratinous fiber containing a cationic direct dye, a polyol or a polyol ether, is prepared by containing, in (A) a medium suitable for the dyeing, (B) one or more kinds of a direct cationic dye of the formula: A-N=N-B (A is a group of formulae I to III; R1 is chlorine, etc., R2 is a 1-4C alkyl or the like; R3 , R4 are each a 1-4C alkyl or the like; Z is oxygen or the like; M, K, P are each CH or the like; R6 , R7 are each H or the like; X is an anion; provided that when R4 is a 1-4C alkyl and also Z is sulfur, conditions such as R3 is not H, etc., must be satisfied; B is a group of formula IV or the like; R8 is H or the like; R9 is H or the like; R10 is H or the like), (preferably a compound of formula V or the like) and (C) at least glycerol and/or a >=4C polyol and/or a 1-8C aliphatic ether, etc., of a 3-9C polyol.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for dyeing a keratin fiber such as human hair, showing a good resistance to attacking factors to the hair, not having selectivity and capable of dyeing more potently by including a specific cationic direct dye and a thickening polymer in a medium suitable for the dyeing. SOLUTION: This dyeing composition for a keratin fiber containing a cationic direct dye and a thickening polymer, is obtained by containing, in a medium suitable for the dyeing, (A) a cationic direct dye of the formula: A-N=N-B [A is a group of formula I (R1 is Cl, Br or the like; R2 is a 1-4C alkyl or the like; R3, R4 are each phenyl or the like; X- is chloride or the like) or the like; B is a group of formula II (R8 is H, Cl or the like; R9 is H, Br or the like; R10 is H, OH or the like) or the like] and (B) at least one kind of thickening agent selected from biopolysaccharide gums derived from microorganisms such as a nonionic guar gum, a sclerogulcan gum, etc., gums obtained from exuding liquids of plants such as a gum arabic, a pectin, an alginate, a starch and a carboxyalkyl cellulose.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound having characteristics capable of dyeing, keratinous fiber, especially human hair, and capable of manifesting, a bright and more natural color, and the color invariable both in sunlight and in bad weather. SOLUTION: This compound is a compound of the formula (R'1 is H or a lower alkyl; R'2 and R'3 are each H, a lower alkyl, carboxyl, a lower alkoxycarbonyl or the like; R'4 and R'5 are each a 9-20C straight chain or branched chain alkyl, a 10-20C straight chain or branched chain acyl or the like) or an alkali(ne earth) metal, ammonium or amine salt thereof, for example, 5,6-carbonyldioxyindole (having 180 deg.C melting point). The compound is obtained by reacting N,N'-carbonylimidazole with 5,6-dihydroxyindole. The compound of the formula of 0.01-5 wt.% based on the whole weight of the composition is preferably present in the composition.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nonselective dyeing composition capable of imparting strong coloring without remarkably deteriorating keratin fibers and showing excellent resistance to external factors by the combination of specific oxidation bases, a two electron oxidoreductase enzyme with its donor and an enzyme mediator. SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by including, in a dyeing medium, (A) at least one oxidation base selected from the group consisting of (i) p- phenylenediamines of formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or the like; R3 is H, a halogen or the like; and R4 is H or a 1-4C alkyl) or their acid addition salt, (ii) base complexes, (iii) p-aminophenols of formula II (wherein R5 and R6 are each H, a halogen or the like) or their acid addition salt and (iv) heterocyclic bases (e.g. pyridine derivative, etc.), (B) a two electron oxidoreductase enzyme [e.g. uricase extracted e.g. from a boar liver], (C) a donor (substrate) (e.g. uric acid, etc.), for the ingredient C and (D) an enzyme mediator (e.g. 1-hydroxybenzenetriazole, etc.), capable of augmenting the enzymatic activity of the ingredient B.
