Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of the formula wherein n is from 2 to 6 and R and R1 are each alkyl radicals of 1-3 carbon atoms or together with the nitrogen atom form a saturated mononuclear heterocyclic radical, and their acid addition and quaternary ammonium salts. The dyes are made by heating b-chloro- or b bromo-anthraquinone with an alkylene diamine of the formula in pyridine, and if desired treating the tertiary amine obtained with a quaternating agent. The dyes dye hair in yellow shades. In examples, 2 (b diethylaminoethylamino)-, 2 - (g - di - ethylaminopropylamino)- and 2 - (b - morpholinoethylamino) anthraquinone are made and quaternated with dimethyl sulphate.

Abstract: Compounds suitable for use in one step hair and keratin fiber dyeing compositions which do not require the use of separate dye modifiers and are exceptionally color stable, having the formula IN WHICH R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyll R1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, and dialkylamino, R4 which can be in position 5 or 6 on the ring is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, hydroxy, alkyl, alkoxy and NH2, and at least one of said R1 and R4 is said dialkylamino or said NH2 .
