Abstract: A process for the preparation of an emulsion of the water-in-oil or oil-in-water type comprises, in a first stage, dissolving the emulsifier for the emulsion in the oil phase which comprises at least one oil or a mixture of at least one oil and at least one wax, at a temperature of about 70-90 DEG C, whilst stirring, and, in a second stage, incorporating the water phase in an amount from 30 to 55% by weight, based on the total weight of the emulsion, and then, after the emulsion has formed, adding polyethylene powder, in the form of essentially spherical particles of size from 3 to 60 microns, at a temperature not exceeding 40 DEG C. This process makes it possible to obtain emulsions which are particularly suitable for application to the skin because they do not give the latter a shiny appearance.
