Abstract: An elevator system includes an elevator car constructed and arranged to travel in a hoistway. A linear propulsion system of the elevator system is configured to impart a force upon the elevator car to control movement of the car. The linear propulsion system includes a secondary portion mounted to the elevator car and may have a plurality of magnets. A first primary portion (42) of the linear propulsion system includes a mounting assembly (60), a plurality of coils engaged to the mounting assembly (60), and a first cooling device (80) including at least one conduit (82) projecting outward from the mounting assembly (60) and into the hoistway for transferring heat.
