Abstract: An apparatus and a method for separating a suspension into a filtrate and a concentrate. There is provided a separation means and a method in which partial filtrates are collected as a plurality of filtrate streams in a plurality of parallel filtrate chambers. The filtrate chamber is divided into several partial filtrate chambers, each of which is connected to a different portion of a partially permeable wall or membrane and receives that part of the filtrate passing therethrough. Also, a relative motion is induced between the suspension and the wall or membrane by a rotating part, thus preventing clogging of the membrane. Furthermore, sensors are provided in the partial filtrate chambers, permitting more information about a dynamic separation process to be obtained.

Abstract: A method of testing the integrity of a filter element in a falter assembly includes a) wetting filter material of a filter element having an inlet side and an outlet side connected to an outlet conduit, b) subjecting the inlet side of the filter element to a gas pressure, c) measuring the pressure in the outlet conduit as a function of time, with a downstream outlet valve for the outlet conduit being closed, and d) determining whether the pressure measured at a preselected time exceeds a reference pressure by a predetermined amount, or determining whether the time required to reach a preselected pressure is shorter than a reference time by a predetermined amount.
