    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel capable of suppressing fluctuation of discharge starting voltages.SOLUTION: A PDP 1 includes a front plate 2 and a back plate arranged to face the front plate 2 with a discharge space sandwiched therebetween. The front plate 2 includes a protective layer 9 facing the discharge space 16. The protective layer 9 includes at least MgO as a first metal oxide and CaO as a second metal oxide. Further, the protective layer 9 is partitioned into a discharge region 50 where surface discharge is generated and a non-discharge region 60 where discharge is not generated, and a composition of a surface of the discharge region 50 is different from that of a surface of the non-discharge region 60.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel that has high-definition and high-luminance display performance and is low in power consumption.SOLUTION: A plasma display panel comprises: a front plate that has a protective layer; and a rear plate that is arranged opposite the front plate with a discharge space formed therebetween. The protective layer has a layer of one or more metal oxides selected form a group consisting of magnesium oxide, calcium oxide, strontium oxide, and barium oxide. The ratio of the secondary electron emission coefficient γ(Kr) of Kr gas in the protective layer to the secondary electron emission coefficient γ(Ne) of Ne gas in the protective layer is 0.02 or higher and 0.12 or lower.
