A refrigerator includes a storage room having an opening portion in a front surface, first light emission unit (20a) that is provided on a top surface of the storage room, first light detection unit (21a) that detects light illuminated from first light emission unit (20a), and concave portion (84) that is provided on a side surface of the storage room. First light detection unit (21a) is provided in concave portion (84). In this way, the refrigerator in which the storage state of the storage items in the refrigerator can be estimated is provided. By performing control in accordance with the storage state, the freshness preservation is improved and the overcooling can be prevented, and then the power consumption can be suppressed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve freshness-keeping performance for food and by keeping a stored item storage temperature optimum in any storage state in a refrigerator, and to suppress power consumption by prevention against excess refrigeration of stored items.SOLUTION: A refrigerator includes ceiling-side LEDs 20a, 20b installed in a storage compartment 12, a main light sensor 21a as an light sensor detecting illumination light, and a blue LED 22a as an auxiliary light emission part emitting color light different from the ceiling-side LEDs 20a, 20b, etc. The main light sensor 21a detects reflected light of the light from the blue LED 22a from stored items to securely detect a stored item with high reflectivity affecting illuminance at a periphery of the main light sensor 21a, thereby securely improving estimation precision for a storage amount by the main light sensor 21a.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator with an illumination unit for directing illumination deep down inside the refrigerator from a position before an opening of the refrigerator, while suppressing as much as possible decrease in the capacity and deterioration in the heat insulting performance. SOLUTION: The refrigerator 100 includes: a main box 101 having an opening in the front face thereof; a semiconductor light emitting element 210 disposed in an inner wall in the vicinity of the opening of the main box 101, and configured to emit light toward the inside of the main box 101; and a cover member 220 for blocking the semiconductor light emitting element 210 from the inner atmosphere of the main box 101. The refrigerator 100 is provided with a base plate 223 in such a manner that an inner wall face A and a plate face F are arranged to be in parallel with each other, wherein the inner wall face A is where the semiconductor light emitting element 210 is disposed therein, and the plate face F that is the face of the base plate 223 where the semiconductor light emitting element 210 is disposed thereon. The semiconductor light emitting element 210 is disposed such that the light axis B is tilted away toward the inner side from the inner wall axis C which is the axis perpendicular to the inner wall A. SOLUTION: This refrigerator 100 has a box body 101 constituted of an insulating material and forming a storage chamber 102 therein, a door body 107 attached to an opening part of the box body 101, so as to be openable and closable a cooling means 115 generating cold air by cooling air, and a storage chamber delivery duct (a cold air circulating passage) 129a for circulating the cold air between the storage chamber 102 and the cooling means 115, and has a disinfecting device 200 having a carrier 201 carrying a photocatalyst and an irradiating means 202 for irradiating the carrier 201 by exciting light for exciting the photocatalyst in the cold air circulating passage.
