Abstract: The tube has an evacuated envelope with an image window, a conical section and a neck in which an electron beam generator (5) is located. The generated beam is directed onto an image screen on the inside face of the image window in the form of a spot deflected across the screen in two orthogonal directions. Four ferromagnetic plates (27--30) extending in the beam deflection directions are grouped around the electron beam, fixed at equal distances from the electron beam generator (5). Pref. the opposite ends of at least two of the plates have additional attached ferromagnetic plates extending perpendicular to the imaged field.

Abstract: In a color display tube having an electron gun of the "in-line" type for generating three electron beams situated with their axes in one plane, the electron gun includes curved field shapers at the end from which the beams exit into frame and line deflection fields. Each field shaper includes two or more plates of ferromagnetic material aligned along a curve and spaced from each other by slots. The plates are arranged symmetrically with respect to the plane and the central beam axis, and a concave side of each field shaper faces the three beam axes. At least the ends of each field shaper which are most remote from the plane have substantially flat plates extending in the direction of the central electron beam axis. By using such field shapers the losses in the line deflection field are small and substantially undistorted, while a desirable pincushion-shaped distortion of the frame deflection field is intensified.

Abstract: Display tube comprising in the neck of an evacuated envelope (1) consisting of a display window (2), a cone (3), and the neck (4), an electron gun (5) for generating an electron beam (6) which is focused to form a spot on a display screen (7) provided on the inside of the display window (2), which is deflected over the display screen in two substantially mutually perpendicular directions (x,y) by the deflection fields of a system of deflection coils (9). If in such a tube field shapers are used at the gun end (10), which field shapers comprise four plates (27, 28, 29, 30) of ferromagnetic material arranged around the electron beam and extending away from the electron beam substantially in the deflection directions (x,y) and are connected at the gun end (10) at a substantially equal distance from the gun end (10), a construction is obtained which is easy to make and with which the edge fields (40, 50) of the deflection fields can locally be made barrel-shaped.

Abstract: 17 "Colour display tube." A colour display tube comprising in an evacuated envelope 1 an electron gun system 5 of the "in-line" type for generating three electron beams 6, 7, 8 situated with their axes in one plane. The axis of the central beam 7 coincides with the tube axis 9. The electron beams converge on a display screen 10 provided on a wall of the envelope and in the operating display tube they are deflected over said display screen in two mutually perpendicular directions by means of a first and a second deflection field 80, 91, the direction of the first deflection field being parallel to the said plane. At its end the electron gun system comprised curved field shapers 27, 28 for causing the fields described on the display screen by the electron beams to coincide as much as possible. Each field shaper comprises two or more plates 29, 30, 31, 32 of ferromagnetic material situated substantially in the elongation of each other and separated by slots, said plates being symmetrical with respect to the said plane and the central beam axis and the curved field shapers facing the three beams with their concave sides so that the field shapers make the first deflection field at the area of the electron beams pincushion-shaped. At least the plates 29, 32 which are farthest remote from the said plane comprise at their ends remote from the said plane substantially flat plates 33 extending substantially in the direction of the central electron beam. In such a colour display tube the losses in the second deflection field are small and said field is substantially not distorted. The desired pincushion-shaped distortion of the first deflection field in the field shapers is even intensified.
