The Sm reduces afterglow as required for X-ray intensifier screen uses with photographic material. Preferably 0À01#p#0À10 and 0À02#q#0À001, the alkaline earth is mainly Ba and X mainly Cl. The examples include specific phosphors. The X-ray film cassette shown includes cover 1, X-ray film 3 with photoemulsion on both sides, and contacting intensifier screens 4 and 5, the former including support 6 (e.g. of paper) with phosphor 7, the latter, support 8 with phosphor 9.
