    Abstract: An improved pool cleaner (10) is provided of the type for random travel over submerged floor (18) and side wall surfaces (20) of a swimming pool (12) or the like to dislodge and collect debris. The pool cleaner (10) includes a hydraulically contoured external housing (14) having a stabilizer float (48) integrated with a carrying handle (52) at an elevated rearward location. The pool cleaner (10) additionally incorporates modular components including a simplified mast unit (56) and related water distribution manifold (74) for delivery of water under pressure to a water turbine drive unit (114) for rotatably driving cleaner wheels (15, 16, 17) to travel over submerged pool surfaces (18, 29) with a portion of the pressurized water inducing a vacuum action for collecting debris within a porous filter bag (22). The modular components are mounted on an internal frame (23) which is quickly and easily accessible for service or maintenance by removal of the external housing (14).

    Abstract: A bag clip is provided for removably mounting a filter bag onto a suction mast of a pool cleaner to collect and retain debris vacuumed by the pool cleaner from submerged floor and side wall surfaces of a swimming pool. The bag clip includes an inner support collar for reception into an open mouth of a porous filter bag, in combination with an outer clamp ring for releasibly clamping the bag mouth onto the inner support collar. The bag clip additionally includes quick release latch tabs for snap fit mounting onto the pool cleaner suction mast. In use, the outer clamp ring can be quickly and easily opened to permit filter bag removal and disposal of collected debris, followed by re-installation of the same or a replacement filter bag.

    Abstract: A floating skimmer is provided for use with a pool cleaner of the type powered by a suction or vacuum source, such as by connecting the pool cleane r via a vacuum hose or the like to the suction side of conventional pool water filtration equipment, wherein the floating skimmer is coupled along the vacu um hose and functions to collect debris picked up by the pool cleaner as well a s floating debris such as leaves and the like on the pool water surface. The floating skimmer comprises a buoyant housing having a perforated collection basket therein defining a primary debris collection chamber adapted for in- line connection along the vacuum hose to capture debris entrained with water draw n from the suction-powered pool cleaner to the filtration system. The perforat ed basket additionally defines a secondary debris collection chamber for capturing floating surface debris drawn over at least one weir, with a flow control valve assembly regulating the weir surface flow to insure that a sufficient flow i s drawn through the pool cleaner for proper pool cleaner operation. A water level regulator float responds to the water level within the skimmer housing to variably open and close submerged auxiliary intake ports therein to maintain the wate r level generally between predetermined maximum and minimum limits. The collection basket is mounted within the buoyant housing for quick and easy removal as needed to dispose of collected debris.

    Abstract: An improved swivel coupling (10) is provided for use with a pool cleaner (12 ), particularly for use in connecting a pool cleaner of the type powered by a suction or vacuum source to a flexible vacuum hose (16) which is connected i n turn to the suction side of conventional pool water filtration equipment (14 ). The swivel coupling (10) comprises outer and inner part-spherical ball segments (28, 30) adapted for respective connection to the vacuum hose (16) and to a water flow port on the pool cleaner (12), wherein the outer ball segment (28) defines a socket (32) for rotationally receiving and supporting the inner ball segment (30) in a manner to accommodate substantial angular a nd rotational swivel displacement therebetween. A plurality of generally axiall y extending ribs (46) are formed within the socket (32) for rotationally supporting the inner ball segment (30) with minimal contact area, and to define therebetween a plurality of axially elongated channels (48). The sock et (32) is also provided with a wiper seal (44).
