Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve energy efficiency by utilizing the heat obtained from the high-temp. flue gas leaving an oxygen-combustion glass melting furnace to heat a combustion oxidizing agent and then to preheat a glass material. SOLUTION: A glass material 21 discharged from a preheating vessel 11 is introduced into a melting vessel 17 provided with a burner 19 along with other glass materials 29. A fuel 31 is burned by a burner 19 together with a heated oxydizing agent contg. >=50wt.% oxygen. The glass material is discharged as a molten glass 25 by the heat. The high-temp. combustion product is sent as a current 41 to a heat exchanger 15 from the melting vessel 17. An oxidizing agent current 33 is supplied to the heat exchanger at the ambient temp. Heat is indirectly exchanged in the exchanger 15. A partial current 90 of the oxidizing agent current 33 lower in temp. than the heated oxidizing agent 35 is also sent to the combustion. The combustion product 43 is sent to the preheating vessel 11 and discharged as a cooled combustion product 45. Gaseous carbon dioxide is recovered from the combustion product in a recovery system 55.
