Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection device which displays an electronic picture. SOLUTION: This projector consists of a lighting device which emits three- color light of various polarized light, three modulators 44, 46, and 48 each of which is used to modulate and reflect polarized monochromatic light so as to change polarization, and an optical splitter 50 provided with two dichroic mirrors 62 and 64 and two polarized beam splitter mirrors 66 and 68 perpendicular to these mirrors 62 and 64, and polarized three-color light is separated into three monochromatic light by one dichroic mirror and two polarized beam splitter mirrors, and each monochromatic light is sent to a corresponding optical modulator. Modulated light reflected from three modulators is sent to the other dichroic mirror and is synthesized with output light in order to display the electronic picture.
