Abstract: The mouse has a mode detection circuit (320) for detecting the connected connector type and a control circuit (220) for converting mouse data into RS-232 or PS/2 form depending on a logic state. The mode detection circuit contains three resistances (321-323) and provides a high level logic signal for a PS/2 connection and a low logic level signal for an RS-232 connection. The conversion is performed accordingly. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method and for an interface converter.

Abstract: A mouse interface converter is provided, which allows a mouse to be connectable to a computer system, such as a personal computer (PC), installed with either an RS-232 serial port or a PS/2 port. This mouse interface converter allows the mouse to be connected directly to PS/2 port and via an adapter to RS-232 serial port. The mouse interface converter includes a mode-detection circuit for detecting which type of port the mouse is currently being connected. The mode-detection circuit can generate a mode-indicating signal indicative of the type of the currently connected port, which is then used to set a control circuit to convert the mouse data to the corresponding format. The mouse interface converter further includes a driving circuit that allows the mouse to be more compatible with various signals of either the PS/2 port or the RS-232 serial port. This feature allows the mouse to be considerably reduced in power consumption that allows the mouse to be suitable for use on notebook computers.

Abstract: The pointer device (20) has a joystick (32) arranged vertically in an aperture (26) of a casing (24), having lower end (36) in contact with vertical sensor (28), and upper end rising through the aperture. The joystick is horizontally movable within a predetermined angle. Movement of the joystick triggers a horizontal sensor (30), downward movement triggers vertical sensor. The pointer device (20) includes a base-plate (22), a casing (24) arranged on the base-plate, a vertical sensor (28) arranged underneath an aperture (26) of the casing, and several horizontal sensors (30) arranged next to the vertical sensor. A joystick (32) is arranged vertically within the aperture of the casing, having a lower end (36) in contact with the vertical sensor, and an upper end rising through the aperture of the casing. The joystick is horizontally movable within a predetermined angle in reference to the lower end. A horizontal movement of the joystick triggers one of the horizontal sensors, while a downward movement triggers the vertical sensor. A control arrangement (60) is connected electrically with the vertical and horizontal sensors for detecting the vertical or horizontal movements, and for producing corresponding signals.
