El proceso opera de acuerdo con una fase conocida como recuperación (separación de las sales a vacío seguido por destilación a vacío) cuando el contenido de las sales excede el umbral de precipitación y si no, el proceso opera en una fase de regeneración (ausencia de separación de las sales y ninguna operación a vacío). Ventajosamente, es realizado el cambio bajo el control de los medios para probar las sales.
