Abstract: An improved pool cleaner (10) is provided of the type for random travel over submerged floor (18) and side wall surfaces (20) of a swimming pool (12) or the like to dislodge and collect debris. The pool cleaner (10) includes a hydraulically contoured external housing (14) having a stabilizer float (48) integrated with a carrying handle (52) at an elevated rearward location. The pool cleaner (10) additionally incorporates modular components including a simplified mast unit (56) and related water distribution manifold (74) for delivery of water under pressure to a water turbine drive unit (114) for rotatably driving cleaner wheels (15, 16, 17) to travel over submerged pool surfaces (18, 29) with a portion of the pressurized water inducing a vacuum action for collecting debris within a porous filter bag (22). The modular components are mounted on an internal frame (23) which is quickly and easily accessible for service or maintenance by removal of the external housing (14).
