Abstract:
Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate reducing battery consumption during periods of inactivity intermixed with traffic bursts in wireless communications systems. A semi-connected mode is provided that fast recognition of mobile devices upon wakeup and access while enabling mobile devices to operate in reduce power states. A mobile device operates in a semi-connected mode with all base stations in an active set of the mobile device. Moreover, mechanisms are provided to notify mobile devices of pending data while avoiding latency associated with paging channels.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for use in a communication system (100) are provided for determining a number of times a message is transmitted on a paging channel. A controller (210, 401) selects a mobile station (102, 103, 104) to receive a general page message on a paging channel in communication system (100). A transceiver (400) transmits the general page message to the mobile station for a number of times until receiving a page response message from the mobile station. The controller (210, 401) determines a maximum number of times a channel assignment message is transmitted to the mobile station, following receiving the page response message, based on the number of times the general page message is transmitted to the mobile station. The transceiver (400) transmits the channel assignment message to the mobile station up to the determined maximum number of times.
Abstract:
A system, method and apparatus for providing location services whereby location determination and location disclosure are treated as separate and independent processes. Location determination may be performed (as necessary) via a first set of network entities to obtain location information for a mobile station. The location information may be cached for subsequent disclosure to any number of applications. Location disclosure may be performed (when requested) via a second set of network entities to provide the location information. Location determination may utilize a first security procedure for authentication and authorization and to obtain a first session key used for location determination. Location disclosure may utilize a second security procedure for authentication and authorization and to obtain a second session key used for location disclosure. For a roaming mobile station, location determination may be performed via a serving network and location disclosure may be performed via a home network.
Abstract:
Apparatuses, methods, and systems of transferring correction information are described. In certain implementations, correction factors relate to stored or calculated values, and a correspondence between a correction factor and a value is indicated by a predetermined order of the correction factors. In one application, a method according to an embodiment of the invention is used to transmit correction factors relating to the positions of physical objects. For example, such a method may be used to transmit correction factors relating to the positions of space vehicles within a Global Positioning Satellite ('GPS') system.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and system provide for efficient use of communication resources for providing broadcast services in a communication system. A receiver receives a first broadcast controller identification from a first base station, and a second broadcast controller identification from a second base station. A controller coupled to the receiver determines whether the first and second broadcast controller identifications are associated with use of a common set of broadcast parameters. A transmitter transmits a request for transmission of a new set of broadcast parameters when the first and second broadcast controller identifications are not associated with use of the common set of broadcast parameters. After receiving the new set of broadcast parameters, the receiver uses the new set of broadcast parameters for receiving broadcast services.
Abstract:
For determining use of receive diversity in a mobile station, a control system (210 or 401) determines a demand level for use of communication resources. A transmitter (300) communicates a message indicating use of receive diversity at a mobile station based on the determined demand level. In another aspect, a receiver (200) receives a channel and determines transmit power level of the channel for being at a lower or upper transmit power level limit. The control system (210 or 401) controls receive diversity by selecting a number of receiver chains (290) based on the determined transmit power level. In another aspect, receiver (200) receives a channel and determines a channel condition of the channel and duration of the channel condition. Control system (210 or 401) controls receive diversity by selecting a number of receiver chains (290) based on the determined channel condition and the duration.
Abstract:
Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to wireless communications. The systems and techniques involve monitoring a first network in accordance with a first air interface, and receiving a message from a second network through the first air interface, the second network being associated with a second air interface different from the first air interface. Various registration and related techniques are also discussed for maintaining connectivity with both networks as the wireless communications device moves through different geographic coverage regions.
