    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, wireless devices may encode and decode transmissions using polar codes. A transmitting device may encode a payload based on a selected payload size. For example, the transmitting device may construct a bit vector including payload bits, parity bits, frozen bits, or some combination of these, and may modify the bits or the order of the bits based on the selected payload size. The device may generate a polar-encoded codeword based on this bit vector, and may transmit the polar-encoded codeword to a receiving device. The receiving device may blind decode the polar-encoded codeword, and may determine the correct payload size based on the decoded bit vector. For example, the device may perform decoding or may check decoded bits based on a payload size hypothesis, where the decoding may fail for any incorrect payload size hypothesis.

A first plurality of packets of the first stream may be transmitted to a second device on a first transmission medium. The first plurality of packets may include one or more index marker packets. A second plurality of packets of the first stream may be transmitted to the second device on a second transmission medium. The second plurality of packets may include at least a subset of the first plurality of packets and at least a subset of the one or more index marker packets. The one or more index marker packets may be configured for use by the second device to detect and discard duplicate packets.

    Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to techniques for encoding and decoding bits of information using cyclic redundancy check (CRC) concatenated polar encoding and decoding. A method generally includes obtaining the bits of information to be transmitted. The method includes performing CRC outer encoding of the bits of information using an even-weighted generator polynomial to produce CRC encoded bits. The method includes performing polar inner encoding of the CRC encoded bits to generate a codeword. The method includes discarding a first code bit at a beginning of the codeword. The shortened codeword is transmitted over a wireless medium. In another method, bit-level scrambling is performed on the CRC encoded bits before the polar encoding to. In another method, only odd-weighted generator polynomials are selected.
