Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for deriving a high quality channel estimate.SOLUTION: A first channel impulse response estimate (CIRE) having multiple channel taps is derived by filtering initial CIREs obtained from a received pilot, for instance. A threshold parameter value is selected based on at least one criterion, and the criterion can relate to a channel profile, operating SNR, a number of channel taps, etc. A second CIRE is derived by zeroing out selected ones of the channel taps in the first CIRE based on the threshold parameter value. The average energy of the channel taps is determined, a threshold is derived based on the average energy and the threshold parameter value, and the channel taps with energy less than the threshold are zeroed out.
