Abstract: An apparatus for providing frame re-transmission in a broadcast communication system. Frame re-transmission is accomplished only when a predetermined number of negative acknowledgement messages are received with respect to one or more data frames. The predetermined number may vary in accordance with various operating parameters, such as the latency of the transmission and/or the number of wireless communication devices currently receiving a broadcast transmission.

Abstract: Method for Processing Shared Sub-packets in a Communication System are disclosed. A communication system providing both voice and data services allows for a plurality of subscriber station to share a data sent in a unit of a forward traffic channel. To provide information required by the subscriber stations to determine that a unit of the forward traffic channel is shared, and to correctly decode the data, different control channel structures are described, e.g. F_SPDCCH. Additionally, the control channel structures provides for more efficient signaling of code channel assignment.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for coordinating times at which a mobile station (5) monitors alternative frequencies with times at which an origination base station (10) transmits short messages. The origination base station (10) determines when the mobile station (5) can be tuned to frequencies other than an origination frequency and transmits a signal commanding the mobile station to tune to an alternative frequency at a particular time. The mobile station (5) first receives commands from the origination base station (10). The commands indicate when the mobile station (5) can be tuned to receive frequencies other than an origination frequency. Based on the commands, the mobile station (5) can select time periods during which it will be tuned to frequencies other than the origination frequency. Short messages are transmitted from the origination base station (10) only at times when the mobile station (5) is known to be tuned to receive the origination frequency based on the knowledge of when the mobile station will be tuned to frequencies other than the origination frequency. A window may be created during which the mobile station (5) can cease receiving information over the origination frequency without any reduction in a total amount of data.
