Abstract: System for application priority based on device operating mode. A method is provided for allocating a top visible resource on a device. The method includes receiving a request requesting allocation of the top visible resource to a requesting application, and determining that the top visible resource is allocated to an owning application. The method also includes associating owner information with requester information to form an arbitration request. The method also includes arbitrating the arbitration request to produce an arbitration decision that indicates that the top visible resource is to be allocated to the requesting application if the owner information indicates that the owning application is privileged and an identifier that identifies the requesting application is contained in a relinquish list associated with the owner information.

Abstract: System for dynamic arbitration of a shared resource on a device. A method is provided for arbitrating the allocation of a device resource on a device. The method comprises receiving a request from a requesting application that requests allocation of the device resource, and determining that the device resource is owned by an owning application. The method also comprises associating owner information with requester information to form an arbitration request, wherein the owner information comprises information about the owning application and the requester information comprises information about the requesting application. The method also comprises arbitrating the arbitration request to produce an arbitration decision that indicates whether or not the device resource should be allocated to the requesting application, and allocating the device resource based on the arbitration decision.

Abstract: A system for reducing receiver power consumption in communication system having a transmitter and one or more receivers schedules periodic messages in "slots." Each receiver is assigned a slot during which it monitors the transmissions. The transmitter transmits messages to the receiver only during the assigned slots. The receiver is in an "active state" during its assigned slot. It may remain in the active state after its assigned slot if the message requires the receiver to perform additional actions. During the "inactive state," which is the time period between successive occurrences of its assigned slot, the receiver may perform any action not requiring coordination with the transmitter. It may conserve power during this time by removing power from one or more components such as those used for monitoring the transmissions. At a time during the inactive state shortly before the assigned slot, the receiver applies power to these components and performs initializations. Such initializations may include reacquiring a pilot channel signal to which the receiver may synchronize itself if its timing signals have drifted out of synchronization with those of the transmitter during the preceding inactive state.

Abstract: The method and the device can be used in communications engineering, in particular in cellular communication systems having a transmitter and one or more receivers. They reduce the power consumption by the receivers. This can be made when for each receiver (122) a time interval is specified in which it observes the transmissions, i.e. is in active state. Transmitter (120) transmits messages (143) to the receiver (122) only when the latter is in active state. In any unactive state the receiver (12) can perform any operation which requires no coordination with the transmitter (12). By a power controller (147) it can switch off any components used for observing the transsmissions (14) . A little before the specified time interval, the receiver (12) supplies power to those components and performs initializations which can include the acquisition of a pilot signal (134) from the transmitter (120) by which receiver (122) synchronizes its clock signal (156) if that had not happened during the previous unactive state.
