Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for preserving power of a remote unit in a dispatch system.SOLUTION: To reduce power consumption of the remote unit in the dispatch system, the remote unit enters a dormant state. A base station (32) transmits a forward link broadcast signal and monitors a common access channel. A first remote unit (10) at short intervals receives and decodes the forward link broadcast signal and determines whether or not the forward link broadcast signal includes active signals (106). If the remote unit determines that the forward link broadcast signal includes no active signals for some time period T, then the first remote unit enters a dormant mode (148). In the dormant mode, the remote unit sporadically receives and decodes the forward link broadcast signal. When this remote unit or any other remote unit on the same net presses push-to-talk buttons (128, 130), then the remote unit transmits a message on the common access channel.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for managing the deleting and reloading of software application components on a wireless device, such as a cellular telephone. SOLUTION: The wireless device has one or more resident executable software applications wherein each application has one or more application components and application-associated data, such as software license and user-specific data. The wireless device selectively deletes one or more application components of the resident software application without loss of the application-associated data to clear resources on the wireless device, and selectively prompts an application download server to transmit deleted application components needed to be reinstalled on the wireless device to execute the application. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for automatically adding feature codes to a head of a destination telephone number in a wireless communication device, thereby to generate a complete destination telephone number. SOLUTION: A wireless communication device contains a speed-dial storage area 126 containing one or more user-entered destination telephone numbers. An additional memory area 128 contains a plurality of sets of additional digits to be added to the user-entered destination telephone number. A user associates one or more additional sets of digits to a selected user-entered destination telephone number. A control processor 102 automatically adds the associated set of additional digits whenever the user-entered destination telephone number is selected. The sets of additional digits may be pre-programmed by a service provider or programmed by the user. The sets of additional digits may include codes for features such as caller identification transmission, caller identification blocking, message waiting cancellation, and the like. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for efficiently updating the versions of stored datasets on a wireless device. SOLUTION: A wireless device has a resident dataset version summary file that identifies the version of each resident dataset, and upon the wireless device attempting (80) to communicate with a download server, the wireless device compares the version of each specific resident dataset listed in the resident dataset version summary file with the version of downloadable datasets resident on the download server to thereby determine (90) if the version of a wireless device resident dataset is different from the versions of a download server resident dataset. If the download server resident dataset is more recent, the wireless device can download (92) it to overwrite the wireless device resident dataset. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly assemble a private communication network into a cellular telephone system and/or a land line telephone system in a manner where it is not necessary to coordinate with a telephone service provider beforehand. SOLUTION: Each member user utilizes either a modified land line telephone (48) directly connected to a public switched telephone network PSTN (10) or uses a modified mobile telephone (22) operatively coupled to the PSTN through a wireless communication system (14). The private communication network includes a network call manager (40) having a telephone network interface (92) for establishing a telephone connection with each of a plurality of telephone lines (44) of the PSTN (20). Each of the plurality of telephone lines (44) is associated with one of the plurality of member users. The network call manager (40) further includes a switch matrix (10) for providing an information signal received from an active member user over a selected telephone line to the remaining non-active member users. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for independently downloading a main program and optional features into a set of storage locations of a wireless communication device. SOLUTION: A memory 123 is used to store the main program and a set of selected optional features 124. An identification element associated with one in the set of selected optional features enables the main program to interact with the one in the set of selected optional features 124-130. A programmer 122 programs the selected optional feature programs 124-130 into a memory 116 by locating a storage location in the memory 116. An indicator indicates that the set of selectable optional features has been stored in the memory. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for preserving power of a remote unit in a dispatch system. A base station (32) transmits a forward link broadcast signal and monitors a common access channel. A first remote unit (10) continually receives and decodes the forward link broadcast signal and judges whether the forward link broadcast signal includes active signals (106). In the sleep mode, the remote unit sporadically receives and decodes the forward link broadcast signal. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for performing efficient system access in a dispatch system. SOLUTION: A communications manager (40) grants an exclusive system talker privilege to one remote unit (10) in the system at a time. After a first pre-determined time has elapsed, any other remote unit (20, 22) can request the exclusive system talker privilege and become the exclusive system talker. The exclusive system talker privilege is revoked by the communications manager (40) to any remote unit who retains the exclusive system talker privilege for more than a second pre-determined amount of time. The exclusive system talker privilege is also revoked upon the release of a push-to-talk button on a remote unit (10). Furthermore, a base station (44) in communication with a remote unit (10) designated as the exclusive system talker generates a surrogate relinquishment request to the communications manager (40) when the exclusive system talker travels outside the coverage area of the system. Abstract:
A private communication network through which a plurality of member users communicate using the public switched telephone network (PSTN) (10) is disclosed herein. Each member user utilizes either a modified land line telephone (48) directly connected to PSTN (10), or uses a modified mobile telephone (22) operatively coupled to the PSTN through a wireless communication system (14). The private communication network includes network call manager (40) having a telephone network interface (92) for establishing a telephone connection with each of a plurality of telephone lines (44) of the PSTN (20). Each of the plurality of telephone lines (44) is associated with one of the plurality of member users. The network call manager (40) further includes a switch matrix (110), coupled to the telephone network interface, for providing an information signal received from an active member user over a selected telephone line to the remaining non-active member users.
