Abstract: A cell site, comprising: means for modulating configured to format digital data for transmission on a communications channel and to insert at least one timing command into the digital data, the digital data comprising a plurality of bits; means for transmitting coupled to the means for modulating and configured to receive the digital data from the means for modulating, convert the digital data to analog data, and transmit the analog data on the communications channel; and means for receiving configured to receive a signal from at least one remote unit and to determine a timing error of the received signal to be used to generate the timing command in accordance with the timing error, the means for receiving being coupled to the means for modulating and configured to provide the timing command to the means for modulating.

Abstract: descreve-se um sistema e processo para comunicação de sinais de informações mediante a utilização de técnicas de comunicação por espectro de propagação. são construídas seqúências pn que estabelecem ortogonalidade entre os usuários de maneira a reduzir a interferência mútua, permitindo uma capacidade mais elevada e um melhor desempenho de enlace. com os códigos pn ortogonais, a correlação cruzada é zero ao longo de um intervalo de tempo pré-determinado, resultando em ausência de interferência entre os códigos ortogonais, contanto apenas que os quadros de tempo dos códigos sejam alinhados em tempo entre si. em uma concretização exemplificada, os sinais são comunicados entre um local de célula e as unidades móveis por meio de sinais de comunicação de aspectro de propagação em seqúência direta. no enlace célula/móvel, são definidos os canais de enlace, piloto, de sincronização, de paginação e de voz. as informações comunicadas através dos canais de enlace célula/móvel são, em geral, codificadas, intercaladas, moduladas mediante chave de desvio bifásica (bpsk) com cobertura ortogonal de cada símbolo bpsk juntamente com cobertura em chave de desvio quadrifásica (qpsk) dos símbolos cobertos. no enlace móvel/célula, são definidos os canais de enlace, de acesso e de voz. as informações comunicadas através dos canais de enlace móvel/célula são, em geral, codificadas, intercaladas, e sinalizadas ortogonalmente juntamente com propagação qpsk.

Abstract: A SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COMMUNICATING INFORMATION SIGNALS USING SPREAD SPECTRUM COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES. PN SEQUENCES ARE CONSTRUCTED THAT PROVIDE ORTHOGONALITY BETWEEN THE USERS SO THAT MUTUAL INTERFERENCE WILL BE REDUCED, ALLOWING HIGHER CAPACITY AND BETTER LINK PERFORMANCE. WITH ORTHOGONAL PN CODES, THE CROSS-CORRELATION IS ZERO OVER A PREDETERMINED TIME INTERVAL, RESULTING IN NO INTERFERENCE BETWEEN THE ORTHOGONAL CODES, PROVIDED ONLY THAT THE CODE TIME FRAMES ARE TIME ALIGNED WITH EACH OTHER. IN AN EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENT, SIGNALS ARE COMMUNICATED BETWEEN A CELL-SITE (12, 14) AND MOBILE UNITS (16, 18) USING DIRECT SEQUENCE SPREAD SPECTRUM COMMUNICATION SIGNALS. IN THE CELL-TO-MOBILE LINK, PILOT, SYNC, PAGING AND VOICE CHANNELS ARE DEFINED. INFORMATION COMMUNICATED ON THE CELL-TO-MOBILE LINK CHANNELS ARE, IN GENERAL, ENCODED, INTERLEAVED, BI-PHASE SHIFT KEY (BPSK) MODULATED WITH ORTHOGONAL COVERING OF EACH BPSK SYMBOL ALONG WITH QUADRATURE PHASE SHIFT KEY (QPSK) SPREADING OF THE COVERED SYMBOLS. IN THE MOBILE-TO-CELL-LINK, ACCESS AND VOICE CHANNELS ARE DEFINED, INFORMATION COMMUNICATED ON THE MOBILE-TO-CELL LINK CHANNELS ARE, IN GENERAL, ENCODED, INTERLEAVED, ORTHOGONAL SIGNALLING ALONG WITH QPSK SPREADING.@@@(FIG. 11)

Abstract: AN APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ADDING AND REMOVING A TARGET BASE STATION FROM A NETWORK OF BASE STATIONS, WHICH INCLUDES BASE STATIONS ADJACENT THE TARGET BASE STATION. THE APPARATUS IS COMPRISED OF TWO ATTENUATORS: A FIRST FOR SETTING AN ARTIFICIAL RECEIVE NOISE POWER LEVEL AND A SECOND FOR SETTING A TRANSMIT LEVEL. THE TRANSMIT LEVEL DETERMINES THE FORWARD LINK COVERAGE AREA OF THE BASE STATION. THE ARTIFICIAL NOISE LEVEL SETS THE REVERSE LINK COVERAGE AREA OF THE BASE STATION. WHEN A BASE STATION IS ADDED, INITIALLY THE TRANSMIT POWER IS LOW AND THE ARTIFICIAL RECEIVE NOISE POWER IS HIGH SUCH THAT THE FORWARD AND REVERSE LINK COVERAGE AREAS ARE COLLOCATED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE BASE STATION. AS THE BASE STATION BLOSSOMS INTO FULL OPERATION, THE ARTIFICIAL RECEIVE NOISE POWER IS DECREASED AND THE TRANSMIT LEVEL IS INCREASED SUCH THAT THE TWO COVERAGE AREAS OF THE BASE STATION REMAIN BALANCED AS THE COVERAGE AREAS EXPAND. WHEN A BASE STATION IS TO BE REMOVED FROM A SYSTEM, THE SAME ATTENUATORS ARE USED TO WILT THE TWO COVERAGE AREAS IN UNISON AS THE POWER LEVEL TRANSMITTED FROM THE BASE STATION DECREASES.FIGURE 4

Abstract: A maximal length linear sequence pseudorandom noise (PN) sequence generator for generating an augmented length PN sequence of length 2N. The PN generator includes circuitry for generating a PN sequence of length 2N -1 chips. A sequence augmenting circuit is included which inserts at least one additional chip in the PN sequence at a predetermined position within the PN sequence so as to provide an output of an augmented PN sequence of length 2N chips. The generator may also include sequence shifting circuitry which is responsive to a mask input for providing a predetermined shift in the output augmented PN sequence without incurring a transition period where the shifted output is invalid.

Abstract: 1. A modulation system for use in spread spectrum communications, comprising: means for generating a first orthogonal sequence signal corresponding to a selected one of a plurality of orthogonal binary sequences; means for generating a pseudo-noise (PN) signal corresponding to a predetermined PN binary sequence; means for combining said first orthogonal sequence signal and said PN signal and for providing a resultant first modulation signal. 2. The system of 1 further comprising additional means for combining said first modulation signal with an input information signal and for providing a resultant spread spectrum information signal. 3. The system of 1 wherein said plurality of orthogonal binary sequences are Walsh sequences. 4. The system of 1 wherein said PN sequence is an augmented length maximal linear sequence PN code.
