    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a space-efficient low-power programmable digital filter which is adapted to use with a telecommunications system transceiver, and can accommodate a range of input frequencies or sample rates. SOLUTION: A digital filter includes: a first finite impulse response filter section 16 having a first transfer function; an infinite impulse response filter section 18 having a second transfer function and being connected to the first finite impulse response filter section 16; a second finite impulse response filter section 20 being connected to the infinite impulse response filter section 18, outputting a filtered output signal in response to reception of an input signal by the programmable digital filter and having a third transfer function; and a means for supplying a programmable coefficient in the first, second or third transfer function.
