Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device, a method, and a system for surely determining a position of a mobile station with larger reliability in order to solve such a problem that each position determination scheme might be sometimes inaccurate and/or might not be able to be used, and thus, the mobile station or a network using an arbitrary position determination scheme might acquire no result or an inaccurate result when position determination is required for a current position of the mobile station.SOLUTION: A method for surely determining a position of a mobile station includes: determining a position of a mobile station by using a first position determination scheme; and when the first scheme does not give an acceptable position result, repeatedly determining a position by using at least one other position determination scheme different from the first scheme at least in some repetitions (i) until a repetition gives an acceptable position result, or (ii) until all available position determination schemes are utilized.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for supporting location services with roaming.SOLUTION: A mobile station 110 communicates with a visited network 102a, receives a request for the mobile station's location, and sends first information (SID and NID) indicative of its current network location to a home mobile positioning center (H-MPC) 160 in a home network 104a. The H-MPC 160 determines a serving mobile positioning center (S-MPC) 150 in the visited network 102a based on the first information. The S-MPC 150 determines a serving position determining entity (S-PDE) 140 in the visited network based on the first information. The H-MPC 160 receives an S-PDE address or a position estimate of the mobile station from the S-MPC 150 and forwards this information to the mobile station 110. The mobile station 110 communicates with the S-PDE 140 for positioning using the S-PDE address.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for deriving a seed position of a subscriber station in support of unassisted GPS-type position determination in a wireless communications system.SOLUTION: In a method and system for deriving a seed position of a subscriber station in a wireless communications system in supporting unassisted GPS-type position determination, the subscriber station receives overhead messages from the wireless communications system, and derives the seed position from parameter values. The subscriber station may use a data structure in its memory and map possible parameter values to corresponding positions that may serve as the seed positions. The data structure can be updated in accordance with update conditions.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus to automatically start and/or stop the generation of position location data for position location functions in external devices, which are adapted to be electrically coupled to and electrically decoupled from a mobile station.SOLUTION: A method and an apparatus automatically trigger position location fixes for external devices. In one embodiment of the present invention, a mobile station generates position location data for a position location function in an external device in response to determining that the mobile station is electrically coupled to the external device, and in response to determining that the position location function in the external device is active. The mobile station does not generate position location data for the position location function in the external device in response to determining that the mobile station is electrically decoupled from the external device, or in response to determining that the position location function in the external device is not active.
