Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new and improved method for decreasing a peak-to-average ratio in a system using an auxiliary pilot channel. SOLUTION: A system using the auxiliary pilot channel is described in TIA/EIA for ITU, cdma 2000 for TR45.5 ITU, and ITU-R RTT Candidate Submission for discussion in the third-generation wireless communication system. The first method is to change a phase in the auxiliary pilot channel. Consequently, the auxiliary pilot channel can be prevented from accumulative application. The second method is to gate out part of the modified auxiliary pilot channel to be applied in an accumulative manner. Further, a signal is decoded by means of the modified auxiliary pilot channel. Abstract:
The present invention is a novel and improved method and apparatus for reducing peak to average ratio in a system using auxiliary pilot channels as described in the TIA/EIA TR45.5 "cdma2000 ITU-R RTT Candidate Submission" to the ITU for consideration in the third generation wireless communication systems. A first method proposed in the present invention to deal with the above stated problem is to alter the phase of the auxiliary pilot channels to reduce to prevent the auxiliary pilot channels from adding constructively. A second method proposed in the present invention to deal with the above stated problem is to gate out the portion of the auxiliary pilot channels that add constructively. The present invention also proposes a novel demodulator design for receiving signals using the modified auxiliary pilot signals.
Abstract:
A transmission method in a communications system having orthogonal code vectors (10) for transmitting message signals. The method includes forming a first vector matrix using a first series of cyclic shifts and forming a second vector matrix using a second series of cyclic shifts. The first vector matrix is permuted to provide an orthogonal code and the permuting operations are determined. The method also sets forth applying the determined permuting operations to the second matrix to provide a quasi orthogonal code vector (50). The quasi orthogonal code vector (50) is applied to a message signal to provide an encoded message signal and the encoded message signal is transmitted. The forming of the first matrix vector includes cyclic shifts of a sequence having a characteristic polynomial.

Abstract:
A method and system that enables faster acquisition of the forward link sign al of a target base station in a mixed network of synchonous and asynchronous base stations is disclosed. The serving base station transmits in a neighbor list an estimated timing error (417) between the serving base station and a target base station. By utilizing the timing information, a mobile station estimates the relative time offset (408) between forward link signals receiv ed from the serving base station and signals received from the target base station. Timing information acquired during handoff enables accurate updatin g of the estimated timing error (417) subsquently transmitted in the neighbor lists by the base stations.
