Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved mask system. SOLUTION: This patient interface for delivering breathable gas to a patient includes: a nasal prong assembly including a pair of nasal prongs structured to sealingly communicate with nasal passages of a patient's nose in use; and a headgear to maintain the nasal prong assembly in a desired position on the patient's face. The headgear includes side straps and rigidizers provided to respective side straps. Each rigidizer includes a first end portion that provides a connector structured to engage a respective end of the nasal prong assembly and an inwardly curved protrusion in the form of a cheek support that curves inwardly of the connector. The cheek support is adapted to follow the contour of the patient's cheek and guide a respective end portion of the side strap into engagement with the patient's cheek to provide a stable cheek support. Abstract: A patient interface for delivering breathable gas to a patient, the patient interface comprising: a frame (5030); a nasal prong assembly (5020) provided to the frame and adapted to provide an effective seal or interface with the patient’s nose; an elbow (5040) provided to the frame and adapted to be connected to an air delivery tube that delivers breathable gas to the patient; and headgear (5050) adapted to support the patient interface in a desired position on the patient’s head, the headgear including side straps (5053) and rigidizers (5055) provided to respective side straps. Each rigidizer includes a frame interface structured to retain the rigidizer to the frame, provide rotation relative to the frame, and provide a friction element to provide resistance to uncontrolled rotation of the rigidizer with respect to the frame. The frame is relatively softer and more flexible than the rigidizers.

Abstract: A swivel elbow and connector assembly for a patient interface system, comprising: a ring (70) configured to be sealingly secured in an aperture of the patient interface system, the ring including a first side in an interior of the patient interface system and a second side at an exterior of the patient interface system when the ring is secured in the aperture, the ring comprising a plurality of vents configured to permit flow of gases from the interior to the exterior of the patient interface system; and an elbow (80) swivelably secured in the ring. The ring comprises a first flange (73) on the first side and a second flange (74) on the second side, the first and second flanges defining a channel that sealingly engages the aperture of the patient interface system and the second flange comprises an angled surface that directs the flow of gases from the plurality of vents at an angle to the longitudinal axis of the ring. A cross-section of an inner surface of the ring perpendicular to the direction of gas flow through the elbow is arcuate and a cross-section of an outer surface of the elbow perpendicular to the direction of gas flow through the elbow is arcuate to form a ball and socket connection with the ring.

The patient interface comprises: a nasal pillows assembly (3820) including a pair of pillows adapted to form a seal region to provide a seal against a rim of respective nares of a patient’s nose; a substantially rigid frame providing primary support for the nasal pillows assembly; headgear structured to provide an elastic force to hold the nasal pillows assembly in a desired position on the patient’s head; and a stabilizer extending from the frame and proximate the nasal pillows assembly. The stabilizer includes a pair of wings (3845) structured and arranged to supplement support and stability to the seal region of the nasal pillows assembly and distribute load from the headgear over a contact area of the wings. The headgear is structured to attach to the frame independent from attachment of the pair of wings to the frame.
