Abstract: The invention relates to a composition based on zirconium oxide and comprising cerium oxide which has a specific surface of at least 30 m2/g after calcination for 6 hours at 900° C. and which is provided in the form of a pure solid solution of cerium oxide in zirconium oxide. According to another embodiment, this composition can additionally comprise a doping element and can exhibit a specific surface of at least 25 m2g after calcination for 6 hours at 1000° C. A process for the preparation of these compositions comprises the following stages:a mixture is prepared, in liquid medium, containing a zirconium compound and a cerium(IV) compound;the said mixture is heated at a temperature greater than 100° C.;the reaction mixture obtained on conclusion of the heating is brought to a basic pH;the precipitate thus obtained is recovered;the said precipitate is calcined;the doping element being, if appropriate, added either to the starting mixture in liquid medium or to the reaction mixture obtained on conclusion of the heating.

Abstract: The invention relates to new compositions based on a mixed cerium and zirconium oxide (solid solutions) having very high specific surfaces, that is to say at least greater than 80 m /g and preferably of at least 100 m /g or even 150m /g, the said surfaces moreover being thermally stable. The amounts of zirconium in solid solution in the cerium oxide can be very large, for example between 1 and 60 atom %. They are obtained according to a process consisting in heating an aqueous mixture containing, in the required stoichiometric proportions, a soluble cerium compound, such as ceric nitrate, and a soluble zirconium compound, such as zirconyl nitrate, in recovering, especially by filtration, the reaction product thus formed and then finally, optionally, in calcining this product. The compositions according to the invention can be used as catalysts and/or catalyst supports (substrates), in particular in the field of automobile afterburning.

Said oxygenated metal compound is produced by means of a method according to which a solution including at least one soluble rare-earth salt, usually an acetate and/or a chloride, is prepared; the solution is contacted with a basic medium and the resulting reaction mixture is maintained at a basic pH; and the precipitate formed by atomization or freeze-drying is recovered. Said method is useful in inorganic synthesis and catalysis.

Abstract: La présente invention a pour objet un procédé de traitement de suies contena nt une ou plusieurs terres rares dans lesquelles on met en contact ladite suie avec un gaz contenant de l'oxygène. Ce procédé se définit en ce qu'il compor te les étapes suivantes: (a) préparer une phase aqueuse comportant en dispersio n au moins un composé oxygéné métallifère; (b) mettre en contact, simultanémen t ou consécutivement, une suspension issue de l'étape (a) avec une phase organique comprenant au moins un agent amphiphile et de préférence un compos é ou un mélange organique jouant le rôle de solvant; (c) puis récupérer la pha se organique; et par le fait que ledit composé oxygéné métallifère est obtenu p ar un procédé comportant les étapes ci-après: on prépare une solution comprenan t au moins un sel soluble, le plus souvent un acétate et/ou un chlorure, de terre rare; on met en contact la solution avec un milieu basique et on maintient le mélange réactionnel ainsi formé à un pH basique; on récupère le précipité formé par atomisation ou lyophilisation. Application à la synthèse minérale et à la catalyse.

Abstract: Se presenta el método para procesar hollín que contiene una o más tierras raras, en donde este hollín se pone en contacto con un gas que contiene oxígeno. El método comprende (a) preparar una fase acuosa que comprende una dispersion de al menos un compuesto de metal oxigenado; (b) poner en contacto, de forma simultánea o consecutiva, la suspension del paso (a) con la fase orgánica que incluye al menos un agente amfifílico y preferiblemente una mezcla o compuesto orgánico como solvente; y (c) recuperar la fase orgánica; el compuesto de metal oxigenado se produce por medio de un método de acuerdo con el cual se prepara una solucion que incluye al menos una sal de tierra rara, que usualmente es acetato y/o cloruro; la solucion se pone en contacto con medio básico y la mezcla de la reaccion resultante se mantiene en un pH básico; el precipitado que se forma se recupera por atomizacion o por secado congelado. Este método es util para la síntesis y catálisis inorgánica.
