Abstract: An electrically actuated door holder and release for the multipoint holding of a pivoted door throughout a range of door open angles, and for the release of a held door either electrically or in response to manual override. The door holder comprises a channel which pivotally supports through linkages an elongated hold-open bar. An elongated friction strip is carried by the hold-open bar. The hold-open bar is normally held in hold-open position under tension by an armature spring coupled to the holdopen bar. The channel is formed with a slot which guides a slide block which moves linearly along the length of the hold-open bar in response to changes in the angle of door opening. The slide block carries a pivotally supported hold-open cam which engages the friction strip to effect door hold open in the event the armature linkage is further placed under tension by energization of an electromagnet. Upon deenergization of the electromagnet, or alternatively upon the application of a manual override door closing force, the hold-open bar is pivoted away from the slide block and the friction strip engaging cam and the door is released.

Abstract: An improved latching lever assembly for use in an electromechanical door holder-closer having a closer spring, a dashpot, and an electromagnet. The electromagnet actuates the lever assembly to latch the spring-dashpot combination to effect a desired door hold open position. The lever assembly comprises a lever, a fulcrum at one end of the lever, and an armature located generally at the other end of the lever and electromagnetically coupled to the electromagnet. A latching detent is located on the lever intermediate the fulcrum and armature to latch a camming roller to arrest the spring-dashpot combination when the electromagnet is energized. An armature-lever coupling spring resiliently couples the armature to the lever to enable the lever to pivot about its fulcrum during manual override of the door holder-closer without a corresponding movement of the armature relative the energized electromagnet, thereby eliminating armature release noises.

Abstract: A door control comprising a heat-actuated door latch and a combination door-closing-arm holder and release. An optical smoke detector is located within a holder-release housing. During normal conditions, the door-closing arm is set at a holdopen angle free of the door to permit an easy door swing. In response to an emergency or smoke condition, the closing arm is released to pick up and close the door. In the event of excessive heat, the door is latched in response to the separation of fusible link segments. Heat from the side of the door opposite the latch housing is conducted through the door by a heat conducting rod.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to an electrically-actuated door holder and release for the multi-point holding of a pivoted door at selected door opening angles, and for the release of a held door either electrically or in response to manual override. The door holder and release includes a rotatable spindle adapted to be connected to a pivoted door which is either push or pull-side mounted. The holder and release comprises a spindle gear assembly having a pair of male spline gears with each gear having a circular ring of splineways forming a series of male projecting keys. A pair of cams, each having cam lobes defining detent segments with each cam having a circular hole internally grooved to mate with the projecting keys of spline gear, is mounted on the shaft. A pair of springs yieldingly hold the cam into mating positions with associated spline gears to rotate therewith. A double lever having a common pivot or fulcrum carries a roller which follows the cams. The lever may be electromagnetically actuated and released to effect a door hold and release, or alternatively, the lever maybe manually overridden. The selected hold-open angles may be set and altered, without removal of the holder and release or the associated door closer from their fixed positions on a header frame and door, respectively. This function is attained by the arrangement of the cams on the spline gears in association with depressible springs which enable the cams to be manually adjusted without removal of any component except the housing cover.
