Abstract: The invention relates to the inhibition of (poly)phosphate scale in aqueous systems involving the use of at least one copolymer comprising the following monomers in polymerized form:-
(I) 50-08% by weight of one or more weak acids;
(II) 2-50% by weight of one or more strong acids;
(III) 0-30% by weight of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated C 4 -C 8 dicarboxylic acids; and
(IV) 0-30% by weight of one or more monoethylenically unsaturated monomers polymerizable with (I), (II) and (III);
wherein the total of monomers (I), (II), (III) and (IV) equals 100% by weight of copolymer.

Abstract: There is provided a laundry composition comprising
i) at least one laundry component selected from the group consisting of surfactants, softening agents, and mixtures thereof and
ii) at least one ampholytic polymer comprising, as polymerized units,
a) 20% to 90% by weight, based on the solid weight of said ampholytic polymer, at least one cationic monomer,
b) 10% to 70% by weight, based on the solid weight of said ampholytic polymer, at least one anionic monomer, and
c) 0% to 90% by weight, based on the solid weight of said ampholytic polymer, at least one nonionic monomer;
wherein the equivalent ratio of said monomer a) to said monomer b) is from 0.33:1 to 1.2:1; and wherein said ampholytic polymer has weight-average molecular weight of 50,000 or less.
