A two-wire field-mounted process device (16) with multiple isolated channels includes a channel that can be an input channel or an output channel. The given input or output channel can be coupled to multiple sensors or actuators (32, 34), respectively. The process device (16) is wholly powered by the two-wire process control loop (14). The process device (16) includes a controller (40) adapted to measure one or more characteristics of sensors (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30) coupled to an input channel (42, 44, 46) and to control actuators coupled to an output channel (48). The controller can be further adapted to execute a user generated control algorithm relating process input information with process output commands. The process device also includes a loop communicator (36) that is adapted to communicate over the two-wire loop.

FLUID FLOW STREAM SENSOR HEATER An improved heater for use in a fluid flow stream sensor is disclosed. The sensor has an external surface disposed in the flow stream, a probe supporting a sensing means therein for sensing at least one desired parameter and a support coupled to the probe for positioning the probe as desired relative to the flow stream. The improved heater is connected to an external power supply . The improvement comprises a first heater disposed in the probe for heating the probe and a second heater constructed of a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) material and disposed in the sensor in a thermally conductive relationship with the external surface thereof and electrically coupled to the power supply and to the first heater to provide heat to the sensor and to control heating of the first heater.

A temperature transmitter (10) in a process control system includes a temperature sensor (16, 18) which senses temperature and provides a sensor output related to sensed temperature. An analog-to-digital converter (28) coupled to the sensor output provides a digitized output related to the sensor output. A microprocessor (22) receives the digitized output, compensates the digitized output and provides a temperature output. Comparison circuitry (12) compares the sensor output to a first threshold VREF1 and provides an inhibit signal to the microprocessor (22) if the sensor is outside of the first threshold VREF1.

Radiateur ameliore (14, 16) destine a etre utilise dans un detecteur de courant d'ecoulement fluide (20). Le detecteur possede une surface exterieure disposee dans le courant en ecoulement, une sonde (22) a laquelle est fixe un organe de detection permettant de detecter au moins un parametre desire, et un support (24) couple a la sonde (22) et permettant de positionner la sonde (22) a l'endroit desire par rapport au courant en ecoulement. Le radiateur ameliore (16) est connecte a une alimentation electrique exterieure (11). L'amelioration comprend un premier radiateur (16) dispose dans la sonde et servant a chauffer celle-ci et un deuxieme radiateur (14) compose d'un materiau PTC (coefficient de temperature positif) et dispose dans le detecteur dans une relation de conduction thermique avec sa surface exterieure et couple electriquement a l'alimentation electrique et au premier radiateur pour fournir de la chaleur au detecteur et commander le chauffage du premier radiateur.
