Abstract:
Internal combustion engine comprising a cylindrical work chamber (1) with a piston (3) sliding therein, said work chamber being closed by a cylinder head (4), a device (5) operating in two stroke mode, for injecting liquid fuel atomized under high pressure, a system for loop scavenging through the cylinder head and two valves having the same cylindrical form and axes. The outer inlet valve (7) cooperates with a cylinder head seat (15), the other valvebeing an exhaust valve (6) of tubular shape which has a surface bearing against a seat (16) formed in the lower portion of the inlet valve (7). The inle valve opens into the work chamber and the exhaust valve opens in the opposite direction, thereby delimiting, between them, an exhaust passage (8). The injection device (5) opens into the work chamber substantially at the centre of a central hub (21) on the cylinder head, the exhaust valve (6) sliding along said hub.
Abstract:
In an engine with Diesel-type compression ignition, the exhaust valve(s) (10) are designed so that the flow is directed past at least the major part of its/their periphery, the piston (3) co-operates with the top of the cylinder head (6) leaving at top dead centre only the required operating clearance between the piston (3) and the part of the cylinder head in which the exhaust valve(s) is/are placed, and a cylindrical recess (14) housing the head (13) of one or each inlet valve (8) and through which is directed the flow from a fuel injector. Said recess is designed to form, virtually on its own, the combustion chamber (7) when the piston (3) is near top dead centre.
Abstract:
An improvement to loop-scavenged two-stroke internal combustion engines with an intake valve (7) engaging a seat (10) for fresh air intake, and an exhaust valve (8) engaging a seat (13) for combustion gas exhaust, is disclosed. The valves are arranged in such a way that the fresh air intake scavenges a susbtantial part of the burnt gases. In at least one of said valves, the valve surface (21) located downstream from the valve face (9) and the surface (23) of the downstream extension of said seat (10) are configured in such a way that they form a substantially isentropic diffuser.
