Abstract: A thermal energy storage system utilizes a phase change material with an encapsulating material surrounding the phase change material. The encapsulating material fully contains the phase change material to prevent passage of the phase change material out of the encapsulating material and/or prevent direct contact of the phase change material with external objects. The encapsulating material is a high density polyethylene (HDPE), which may be a non-crosslinked or crosslinked HDPE. In a method of forming a thermal energy storage system a phase change material is surrounded with the encapsulating material.

Abstract: A polyethylene composition having increased environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) is comprised of a polymer blend of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyethylene glycol (PEG). The PEG is present in the polymer blend in an amount of from 0.5 wt. % to 15 wt. % by total weight of the polymer blend. The PEG may have an average molecular weight of from 2000 to 40,000. In a method of forming a polyethylene composition having increased ESCR, a HDPE is modified by combining the HDPE with PEG in a polymer blend, the PEG being present in an amount of from 0.5 wt. % to 15 wt. % by total weight of the polymer blend. The polymer blend can be formed into an article of manufacture, such as a bottle cap.

The polymeric matrix further comprises structural units derived from a polymerizable co-monomer comprising a functional group that has the ability to form hydrogen bonds within the polymeric matrix. The polymeric matrix further comprises a crosslinking agent, and wherein the polymeric matrix comprises covalent crosslinks between the crosslinking agent and the structural units derived from the polymerizable vinyl monomer.

A composition can include iron powder, ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (FeSO4.7H2O) and glycerol dispersed in polyethylene. Such compositions are useful for creating packaging films with improved oxygen scavenging capability.
