Abstract: The invention relates to a polyacrylate-based graft copolymer comprising a polyacrylate backbone and polyolefin side chains grafted thereon, wherein the graft copolymer is prepared by reacting a first polymer and a second polymer, wherein the first polymer comprises recurring units having the structure (I) and optionally further recurring units having the structures (II): Formulae (I), (II) wherein R1, R3 is H or CH3 and R2 is a hydrocarbon moiety comprising 1 to 6 carbon atoms, one of R4 and R5 is H and the other one of R5 and R4 is COOR2, C═N, Cl, or an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon moiety optionally containing one or multiple hetero atom functionalities, wherein R2 in (I) is different from R2 in (II) and the second polymer is a functionalized polyolefin having one or multiple hydroxyl functional groups, wherein the graft copolymer is formed by transesterification of the COOR2 group of (1) or (II) with the hydroxyl functional group of the functionalized polyolefin.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a composition comprising from 60-98 wt. % of polypropylene, from 2-40 wt. % of aromatic polycarbonate and from 0.1-10 wt. % of compatibiliser for the manufacture of a foamed article, wherein the compatibiliser is a BAB or AB type of block copolymer comprising a polypropylene block A and a polyester or polycarbonate block B, or wherein the compatibiliser is a graft copolymer of the type ABn having a polypropylene backbone A and polyester or polycarbonate block(s) B grafted thereon, with n being at least 1, and wherein the polyester or polycarbonate blocks B have an average M/F ratio from 2-25, wherein M is the number of backbone carbon atoms in the polyester or polycarbonate not including carbonyl carbon atoms, and F is the number of ester or carbonate groups in the polyester or polycarbonate block, and wherein the wt. % is based on the sum of the amount polypropylene, polycarbonate and compatibiliser.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for moulding a polymeric object, the process comprising the steps of: (a) providing a substantially flat horizontally positioned layer of a material, the layer being a film or sheet; (b) providing a layer of a thermoplastic powder onto the layer provided under (a); (c) subjecting a pre-defined part of the thermoplastic powder to irradiation to heat the pre-defined part of the thermoplastic powder to a temperature at which the thermoplastic fuses or sinters onto at least a part of the flat layer of material; (d) terminating the exposure to irradiation; (e) providing a further layer of the thermoplastic powder onto the layer provided under (b); (f) subjecting a pre-defined part of the thermoplastic powder of the layer provided under (e) to irradiation to heat the pre-defined part of the thermoplastic powder to a temperature at which the thermoplastic fuses or sinters onto at least a part of the flat layer of the material fused under (c); (g) terminating the exposure to irradiation; (h) repeating steps (e)-(g) for as many cycles as required to complete the shape of the desired polymeric object; (i) removing the fraction of thermoplastic powder that has not been fused or sintered; and (j) optionally removing the substantially flat layer as provided under (a) from the polymeric object; wherein the surface area of the substantially flat layer of material is at least 200% of the surface area of that layer produced under steps (c)-(h) having the largest surface area. Such process allows for the production of small series or uniquely designed objects at low energy consumption wherein the objects exhibit high dimensional stability.

Abstract: A method of additive manufacturing an article in the ZX (upright) orientation utilizes a composition including specific amounts of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane and polysiloxane-treated titanium dioxide particles. Although addition of titanium dioxide particles to a plastic composition typically reduces impact strength, articles additively manufactured from this composition exhibit improved impact strength relative to articles manufactured from a corresponding composition lacking the polysiloxane-treated titanium dioxide particles.
