Abstract: A bullet-proof and/or shatter-proof toughened, laminated glass plate includes a stack of glass sheets. A central ballistic system (BC) of the glass plate has, at its peripheral region corresponding to a reinforcing element (C) of the peripheral ballistic system (BP), one or more reinforcing cladding portions made from a high-strength ballistic material, and integrated in the stack. At least one of the reinforcing cladding portions is integral with the element (C) (i.e., a one-piece construction).

Abstract: The invention relates to a laminated glass, especially for an aircraft windshield. The glass 1 according to the invention comprises at least two glass sheets 2, 3 and an insert 4 made from polyvinyl butyral which does not extend beyond the periphery of the glass sheet of greater dimension and which has, in at least one of the two surface layers 5, 6 in contact with the glass sheets, a higher plasticiser level than in the internal layer 7 of the insert. The glass has a very high rupture strength by cleavage of the glass sheets under the action of an impact.

Abstract: A screen comprising a glass substrate, possibly coated with several layers, and a coating which comprises a sublayer of mineral cpds. and a hydrophobic-oleophobic coating. The density of the mineral sub-layer is at least equal to 80% of that of the material of which it is constituted. The sublayer is constituted of one of the materials: Al2O3, Ga2O3, SnO2, TiO2, Ta2O5, Cr2O3, ZrO2, Nb2O5, In2O3, Fe2O3, CoO3,V2O5,Y2O3, TiN, SiOx (x = 1 or 2) and SiOpCq (p = 1-2 and q = 0 or 1), alone or in combination. The thickness of the layer is 80-5000 Angstrom . The mass density, i.e. the density of the crystalline species, is ≥ 90% of the materials of the sublayer. More pref., the compsn. of the sublayer is SnO2 doped with F. The hydrophobic-oleophobic layer comprises at least 1 hydrolysable fluorinated alkylsilane or a mixt. of these with other silanes. More pref. it is a perfluoro-alkylsilane of formula: CF3-(CF2)n-(CH2)m-SiX3, where n = 0-12; m = 2-5; and X = a hydrolysable gp.. The thickness of the coating is 10-50 Angstrom . The coated screen pref. comprises a glass substrate with a functional coating stack. The final coating comprising a mineral layer (of density ≥ 80%) covered with a hydrophobic/oleophobic coating as described above. The angle of contact of a drop on the surface, having been subjected to 500 rotations of a grindstone (ASTM D1044-78 standard), is >60 degrees . The functional coating is anti-reflective or low emissive and/or conductive. Prodn. of the screen comprises: deposition of a hydrophobic/oleophobic layer on a dense mineral sublayer (after cleaning of the latter) by contact with a soln. contg. a hydrolysable fluorinated alkylsilane in a non-polar solvent system; or cleaning of the substrate to be coated, deposition of a mineral sub-layer (of density ≥ 80%), cleaning of the sublayer, deposition of a hydrophobic/oleophobic coating.

Abstract: A laminated structure for windows, particularly on vehicles, comprises a transparent substrate (1) on which are deposited three layers of ZnS (2,4,6) sandwiching two layers of Ag (3,5). Ag layer (3) closest to the substrate is thinner than layer (5). A further transparent substrate (8) may be bonded by polyvinylbutyral layer (7) on to uppermost layer (6) of ZnS. To assist bonding very thin layers of another metal, alloy or oxide thereof may be located between substrate (1) and layer (7) and the adjacent ZnS layers (2) and (6).
