    Abstract: PURPOSE: To extend life by forming an antidiffusion layer for a reducing agent, containing aluminum or aluminum compound on the inner face of a metal substrate facing a heater. CONSTITUTION: A antidiffusion layer 5 is formed on the face of an oxide cathode on a heater 4 side of a metal substrate 2. The diffusion preventing layer 5 is formed by desirably giving aluminum coating to the surface of the heater 4 for the metal substrate 2 mainly containing nickel, and then the cathode is operated such that reaction occurs between Ni in the metal substrate and Al in the antidiffusion layer 5 to produce Ni3 Al and NiAl. Such Ni3 Al and NiAl metal compound is mainly formed in an electron tube evacuation or activating processes and also formed in the general cathode operation. These materials, once formed, are stabilized at a high temperature, not decomposed, so that the diffusion of a reducing agent in the metal substrate to the the heater 4 side can be shut off and the waste in the reducing agent due to flow-out is prevented so as to extend the life of the cathode.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a cathode with high current density and long life by providing oxide selected from among Eu2 O3 , La2 O3 and Sc2 O3 , carbonate selected from among BaCO3 groups, reduced material and electron-emitting pellets in a cup. CONSTITUTION: Pellets 5 formed of electron-emitting material, containing oxide selected from among 1-20 wt.% Eu2 O3 , La2 O3 and Sc2 O3 groups on the basis of the total electron-emitting material, carbonate selected from among BaCO3 , SrCO3 and CaCO3 groups, reduced material selected out of Ni, W, Mg, Si and Mo groups and Ba composite oxide are covered with a heat-resistant metal cup 6. The cup 6 is laser-welded to the upper end of the inside of a sleeve 2, and a heater 3 is built in the sleeve 2. A cathode obtained in such a way has a low operating temperature, of about 800-900 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve a life property and provide compatibility in a manufacturing process by making an electron-emitting material contain lanthanum oxide and terbium oxide, which forming a needle crystalline structure. CONSTITUTION: An oxide cathode is provided with a metal substrate 2, an electron-emitting material layer 1 containing barium, formed on the metal substrate 2 and a cathode heater 4. The electron-emitting material layer 1 also contains at least one of lanthanum oxide, and terbium oxide is formed in a needle crystalline structure. The amount of at least one of the lanthanum oxide and the terbium oxide is desirably 0.0001-5 wt.% on the basis of the total amount of the electron-emitting material.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve dispersed state of a reducing agent contained is thermionic emission material and to generally improve thermionic emission characteristics by a method, wherein a fourth material containing the thermionic emission material is made of one of scandium nitrate, rare metal nitrate and indium nitrate. CONSTITUTION: A thermionic emission material layer 3 comprising ternary alkaline earth metal carbonate composed of barium, strontium and calcium is formed on the surface of a base matal 2, and is decomposed thermally to form an oxide thermionic emission material layer. This thermionic emission material contains at least one of scandium nitrate, rare metal nitrate and indium nitrate as a fourth material. A negative electrode for electron tube exhibits high thermionic emission characteristic, because the fourth material such as a rare earth and scandium nitrate, and rare earth nitrate or indium nitrate is thermally decomposed and uniformly dispersed as an oxide. This significantly improves the thermionic emission characteristic and also lengthens the lifetime of the negative electrode. Thus, the highly reliable negative electrode for electron tube can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an oxide cathode which has improved characteristic of life time and electron emission by making an electron-emitting material layer containing barium contain a specific amount of tin additionally. CONSTITUTION: An oxide cathode which contains an electron-emitting material layer 4 containing barium, a metallic base 1, a sleeve 2, and a heater 3. Then, tin or tin compounds of 0.1-20 weight of based on the electron-emitting material gross weight is added further to the electron-emitting material layer. When the electron-emitting material layer contains indium or indium compound further in addition to tin it is preferable that, the life time characteristic of the cathode can be improved further. It is preferable that the tin compound be selected from among tin carbonate, tin oxide, in hydroxide, and organic tin compound. Moreover, the form of a composite compound of tin and indium or an alloy of tin and indium may also be adopted.

CONSTITUTION: A Ba evaporation restricting layer 5 is formed on an electron- emitting material layer 1. The Ba evaporation restricting layer 5 which serves to restrict Ba evaporation for extending the life of a cathode should be a layer which minimizes the effect of Ba no electron-emitting function. The Ba evaporation restricting layer satisfied with sch conditions is formed of titanium- contained compound, for which at least one of CaTiO3 and SrTiO3 groups is desirably selected. The Ba evaporation restricting layer is desirably 10-10000 Åin thickness.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To restrict lowering of electron discharge efficiency of a cathode material due to high-temperature heat treatment by immersing a metal powder selected in Mo, Ta, and W, a blended body composed by blending at least two kinds of blended powders selected from a carbonate salt of Sr, Ba, and Ca in at least two kinds of alloy powders selected from Mo, Ta, and W, or a pellet being a molder thereof in a water solution in which an aluminum compound is dissolved. CONSTITUTION: At least two kinds of blended powders selected from among a carbonate of Sr, Ba, and Ca are blended in at least two kinds of alloy powders selected from among a metal powder selected from among Mo, Ta, and W and at least two kinds of alloy powders selected from among Mo, Ta, and W and pressurized and molded in the pellet of a specified shape. Then, the pellet is immersed by dissolving an Al compound in an adequate solvent. Then, the pellet is completed by burning it in a temperature range of about 1200 to 1300 deg.C and removing CO2 .
