Abstract: 966,549. Capacitors. SERVO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. March 13, 1961 [Jan. 17, 1961], No. 1942/61. Heading HIM. [Also in Division H4] In a quasi-Doppler beacon in which the individual members of a circular array of aerial elements are energized sequentially by means of a rotary electro-mechanical capacitative commutator to simulate the effect of a moving aerial, distortion of the signal emitted by an active element due to parasitic effects of the inactive elements is prevented bye oupling at least the inactive elements adjacent the active element to respective terminating impedances each comprising reactive and resistive components which detune and damp the inactive elements. As shown schematically in Fig. 1 the aerial elements A 1 . . . A 50 are connected to corresponding stator electrodes of the commutator and a corresponding number of rotor electrodes are provided on a rotating member 15, one of the rotor electrodes, i.e. the signal electrode 17, being coupled to the transmitter output terminal 10 by means of a rotary capacitative coupling 13 and the other auxiliary rotor electrodes being connected to respective terminating impedances Z1 . . . Z49 mounted on the member 15; alternatively as shown in Fig. 2 only a small number, e.g. two, of auxiliary rotor electrodes may be provided on either side of the signal rotor electrode 17. The structural arrangement of the commutator is shown in exploded view in Fig. 2 in which each stator electrode comprises a pair of radial strips, e.g. 17 1 , 17 11 mounted on fixed spaced plates, the rotor electrodes comprise radial strips 16, 18, 19, 20, 21 on the rotating disc 15 mounted between the fixed plates and the rotary coupling 13, Fig. 1, comprises a disc 12 on the rotating member 15 and a cylinder 11 1 on the lower fixed plate. Shield elements 45 are located between the lower stator electrodes 17 1 &c. to prevent interaction and similar shield elements may be located between the upper stator elements 17 11 &c.
