Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst exhibiting improved catalytic hydrogenation activity at the time of using the catalyst in a process in which a hydrocarbon containing an arom. compd. is brought into contact with the catalyst in the presence of hydrogen and also at high temp. and pressure. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst contains a refractory oxide carrier and 2-15 wt.% platinum and/or palladium, 5-40 wt.% molybdenum and/or tungsten and 0.5-5 wt.% cobalt and/or nickel at need as catalytically active components, and the molybdenum and/or tungsten mainly present in the form of their sulfides. Moreover, the process in which a hydrocarbon feedstock containing an arom. compd. is brought into contact with the catalyst in the presence of hydrogen, and a production method of this kind catalyst is also provided.
