    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydroformylating an ethylene-based unsaturated compound. SOLUTION: In this method for hydroformylating an ethylene unsaturated compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst system composed of (a) a platinum group cation, (b) a nonhalide, (c) at least one bidentate ligand of the formula; R R M RM R R (in the formula, M and M are each independently phosphorus, arsenic or antimony atom; Ra bifunctional cross-linking group containing 1-4 atoms) and (d) a halide anion selected from the group consisting of a chloride, an iodide, a bromide and its mixture, water in an amount larger than 0.6 wt.% based on the total of the reaction mixture and equal to or smaller than the solubility limit under the reaction conditions.
