    Abstract: The invention comprises a salt of a polymeric amine with an organo phosphorus acid. The polymeric amine may be a polymer or copolymer of vinyl pyridine, vinyl quinoline or aminostyrene, a polyamine prepared by reducing in the presence of ammonia or an amine a copolymer of a mono-olefine and carbon monoxide, a hydrogenated copolymer of 1,3-butadiene and acrylonitrile, a polymer or copolymer of an acrylate or methacrylate of a hydroxy alkyl tertiary amine such as diethylaminoethyl methacrylate, or a polymeric amine obtained by reacting a polymer containing epoxy groups with ammonia or an amine. The organo phosphorus acid may be an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl ester of an oxyacid or thioacid of phosphorus, or a phrosphinic, phosphonic, thiophosphinic or thiophosphonic acid. The salt is prepared by reacting the polymeric amine with the organo phosphorus acid, or a salt, such as the hydrochloride, of the polymeric amine with a salt, such as the sodium salt, of the organo phosphorus acid, in a solvent. In examples the salts prepared are the dinonyl phosphate and the dinonyl dithiophosphate of a copolymer of methyl methacrylate, stearyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate and 2-methyl-5-vinyl pyridine, and the dicresyl phosphate of a polymeric amine containing 0,22 milli equivalents of basic nitrogen per gram. Specifications 660,918, 760,554, 818,254 and 845,135 are referred to.ALSO:A lubricating oil composition contains 0.1 to 20% by weight of a salt of a polymeric amine with an organo phosphorus acid. The polymeric amine may be a polymer or copolymer of vinyl pyridine, vinyl quinoline or aminostyrene, a polyamine prepared by reducing in the presence of ammonia or an amine a copolymer of a mono-olefine and carbon monoxide, a hydrogenated copolymer of 1,3-butadiene and acrylonitrile, a polymer or copolymer of an acrylate or methacrylate of a hydroxy alkyl tertiary amine such as diethylaminoethyl methacrylate, or a polymeric amine obtained by reacting a polymer containing epoxy groups with ammonia or an amine. The organo phosphorus acid may be an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl ester of an oxyacid or thioacid of phosphorus, or a phosphinic, phosphonic, thiophosphinic or thiophosphonic acid. The salt is prepared by reacting the polymeric amine with the organo phosphorus acid, or a salt, such as the hydrochloride, of the polymeric amine with a salt, such as the sodium salt, of the organo phosphorus acid, in a solvent. The lubricating oil may be a mineral oil or a synthetic oil such as polymerized olefins, copolymers of alkylene glycols and alkylene oxides, di(2-ethyl hexyl) sebacate, dioctyl phthalate, trioctyl phosphate, polymeric tetrahydrofuran, or a dimethyl silicone polymer. Hydrocarbon lubricating oils may be blended with castor oil, lard oil or a synthetic lubricating oil. The lubricating oil may also contain other additives, which are listed. In examples, mineral lubricating oil contains the dinonyl phosphate or the dinonyl dithiophosphate of a copolymer of methyl methacrylate, stearyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate and 2-methyl-5-vinyl pyridine, or the dicresyl phosphate of a polymeric amine containing 0.22 milli equivalents of basic nitrogen per gram, and 4,41methylene bis(2,6-ditertiary butyl phenol).
