    Abstract: Polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) is stabilised against thermal degradation and out-gassing or organic substances by addn. of active carbon powder (I) as stabiliser. Amt. of (I) added is 1-2%; a keto gp.-contg. polymer (II) or polyimide of about the same thermal stability as PPS is added, in combination with up to 5% (I); (II) is an aromatic ketone, pref. poly-1, 4-oxyphenyloxy-p, p'-benzophenone, and amt. of (II) is up to 5 wt. % (pref. up to 1 wt.%), with 2 wt.% (I); condensable, oligomeric ketones or imides capable of resonance are added either to the starting materials or during the roasting process and copolymerised into the polymer chain, before adding (I); alternatively, up to 5% of an equally stable polymer with aromatic amine gps., esp. polyvinylcarbazole, is added, together with 2% (I); 1% alkali carbonate, pref. Li2CO3, is also added.

    Abstract: A field of application of open-celled plastics foams is in the generation of non-aligned air or water flows which are as laminar as possible. The plastics foams can replace porous ceramics with the advantage that corresponding parts can be produced by injection moulding. In order to produce these open-celled plastics foams, a plastic which can be, for example, injection moulded or compression moulded, is treated with 1...5 % of a foaming additive and 10...50 % of a soluble material that is insoluble in the plastic and the soluble components are eluted by solvents after the mixture has been processed.

    Abstract: Foamable hot-melt adhesives comprised of a per se known hot-melt adhesive having a foaming additive therein, for example an organic azo compound. These adhesives can function in a purely physical foaming manner but can also function as crosslinking material, i.e. as solidifying and bonding materials. The foamable hot-melt adhesives of the invention can be used, for example, in sealing cable ends, for filling any desired aperture in the construction field, for sealing windows, doors, etc. or for sealing articles of manufacture.

    Abstract: The proposal concerns fluorinated lubricants based on perfluoropolyether oils (PFPE) which, compared to prior art PFPE oils, contain an increased proportion of short-chained oligomers with fewer than 8 perfluoroalkylene components. The proposal is also for mixtures of prior art PFPE oils with low-molecular perfluorinated fluids based on hexafluoro-propylene oxide oligomers as lubricants. The lubricants have an adequately low viscosity for processing without solvents and a relatively low vapour pressure.

    Abstract: Glass or vitrified carbon is produced by thermal degradation of polyphenylene sulfide or a substituted compound thereof by additions of an oxide of a sulfide-forming metal, such as Fe2O3, which is added in a weight amount of at least about 1% and preferably about 10%, in order to accelerate the degradation process, and resultant admixture is heated to a temperature above about 150 DEG C. and thereafter the temperature is increased during the course of the reaction. The inventive process is useful for production of chemically resistant glass carbon fibers, glass carbon electrodes, glass carbon containers, etc.

    Abstract: Prodn. involves (a) applying a thin film of a silicone oil (I); and (b) treating the film in a plasma until the film has the required deg. of chemical crosslinking. (I) pref. contains polysiloxanes, pref. polydimethylsiloxane, esp. with hydrophilic end gps.. The film is 50 nm to 2 microns thick. (I) can be applied by gas phase deposition; by stamping; or by immersing the substrate in a (I) soln.. The film is treated in a plasma contg. O2 and opt. also an inert gas, pref. at normal pressure and temp. and with a h.f. plasma. When used for coating an orifice plate, the ink channels not to be coated are sealed before applying the (I) film. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is claimed for coating the orifice plate of an ink jet printing head. It is permanent and can be applied easily and to surfaces of any shape and any material, in thicknesses to suit the application.
