Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device in which molten metal can be discharged without any slag while evading the molten metal from splashing when the molten metal is tapped off, and the operation can be achieved at low investment and operation cost. SOLUTION: When the molten metal (5) is tapped off, just before the tapping- off process and during the tapping-off process, a fluid blowing jet (25) having high kinetic pulse energy is jetted in parallel to the molten metal surface (7) sufficiently as much as possible through an opening part (4) for tapping off in the melting vessel (1) so that a molten slag (6) is evaded from flowing out from a melting vessel (1) by pushing back the molten slag (6) from the surface of the molten metal (5) in the tapping-off range by a blow-lance (20) provided at the outside of the melting vessel (1) and variable in the inclination to and the distance from the molten metal flowing-out ridge part (10).

Abstract: Process for the slag-free removal of molten metal from a metallurgical vessel, e.g., a converter, comprises blowing a fluid stream (25) having a high kinetic impulse energy almost parallel to the bath surface (7) using a blowing lance (20) during removal of the melt so that the molten slag (6) is forced back in the pouring region from the surface of the melt and is hindered at the outlet from the vessel. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for removing a molten metal from a metallurgical vessel, e.g. a converter. Preferred Features: The direction of the blowing lance is continuously adapted with respect to the inclination and removal to the molten metal outlet edge (10) using a manipulator (27) with the aid of a measuring and regulating system (17) of the pouring movement of the vessel.

Abstract: A method of slag-free teeming of metal melt includes arranging outside of the metal vessel and closely adjacent to the discharge edge of the vessel discharge opening, of a jetting lance an inclination of which relative to a bath surface in the vessel and spacing from the discharge edge is changeable and injecting, through the discharge opening of the melt vessel, immediately before start of the teeming process and during the teeming process, a fluid jet having a high kinetic pulse energy substantially parallel to the bath surface for forcing a slag melt, which is located in a discharge region of the vessel and covers t he metal melt, back.

Abstract: PCT No. PCT/DE96/02133 Sec. 371 Date May 11, 1998 Sec. 102(e) Date May 11, 1998 PCT Filed Nov. 4, 1996 PCT Pub. No. WO97/18050 PCT Pub. Date May 22, 1997A process for closing a tap hole in a metallurgical vessel at least partially filled with a metal melt includes bringing a compressible fire-resistant material to the moth of a tubular closing element, providing a medium that substantially prevents contact between the fire resistant material and the metal melt, passing the closing element through the melt toward the bottom of the vessel, compressing the compressible material against the bottom of the vessel to form a seal between the outside of the closing element and the tap hole below the closing element, and moving a cut off device over the outside of the tap hole, thereby allowing the tap hole to be filled with a pourable refractory compound via the tubular closing element. A device for performing the process for closing a tap hole includes a tubular closing device with a groove at an end bottom facing the bottom of the metallurgical vessel. The open end of the groove also faces the bottom of the vessel and a closed end of the groove includes a compressible material. The sides of the groove are deflectable such that when the closing device is lowered onto the bottom of the vessel, the compressible material contacts the bottom of the vessel forming a seal.
