    Abstract: Organic cpds from the ozonisation of mono- or polyunsatd cpds in the presence or absence of solvents are sepd and recovered from oxygen contg. recycling gas. Process comprised (1) sepg prodn in the form of smoke from the gas in a suitable device, (2) washing in counter-current with a polyoxyalkylene glycol(I) with a mol wt of 200-10000 which has been pretreated with a 2-4C monocarboxylic acid anhydride and/or (3) washing in counter-current with a polyoxyalkylene glycol(II), with a mol wt of 200-10000 or an excess of an aq basic alkali metal cpd soln with a pH >=8 before recycling the gas. In step (2) absorbed organic cpds are recovered by stripping under vacuum or atmospheric pressure. If only step (3) is carried out with (II) then these cpds are recovered by stripping under vacuum or atmospheric pressure or by hydrolysis followed by distn. under vacuum or at atmospheric pressure. Organic cpds eg cycloocta-, cyclo(do)decadiene, cydododecatriene, unsatd acids eg oleic acid can be recovered from ozonisation and feel back to the ozonisation step without further treatment except for drying when in step (3) an aq alkali soln is used.

    Abstract: The invention is concerned with a process for separating and recovering organic compounds from oxygen-containing recycle gas deriving from the ozonisation of mono or polyunsaturated compounds, in the presence or absence of solvents. The gas before being recycled, is subjected to the following treatment: (a) passage through a suitable apparatus in which the products contained in the gas in the form of fumes are separated; (b) countercurrent scrubbing with a polyoxyalkyleneglycol having a molecular weight of 200 to 10,000 and pretreated with an anhydride of a monocarboxylic acid containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms; and/or (c) countercurrent scrubbing with a polyoxyalkyleneglycol having a molecular weight of 200 to about 10,000 or with an excess of a basic compound of an alkali metal in the form of an aqueous solution a Ph ? 8. The organic compounds absorbed during treatment (b) are then recovered by stripping at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum. If only treatment (c) with the polyoxyalkyleneglycol is carried out, the compounds are subsequently recovered either by stripping at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum, or by hydrolysis followed by distillation at atmospheric pressure or under vacuum. The process of the invention makes it possible to treat large quantities of gas with small quantities of scrubbing liquid, therefore attaining low stripping costs.
